updates for VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller?

Hi,

I have a problem with my Windows XP Pro reading a SONY PD100 DVCAM through the firewire. Actually it did work for about 24 hours on Friday, it was immediately recognised by plug and play on the desktop, and I was able to digitise media into the Avid Xpress DV. But then yesterday it just stopped working. I thought it might have been a few Windows updates which knocked it out of place, so I tried system restore to a point on Friday where it was working, but nothing happened. The device manager recognises the firewire hub (VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller) but says there are no updates to install. I've tried a few windows hotfixes and patches, but nada. I've tried restarting, standing on my head and coughing 3 times to no avail. I've tried my firewire cable on a friends computer, and it works fine. So what might be the problem?

My specs are:
Windows XP Pro
Intel Celeron 2.8GHz
256MB DDR-SDRAM
120GB Ultra DMA Hard Drive (7200rpm)
HP DVD writer +R/+RW 4x
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
128MB video memory
IEEE 1394 Firewire interface
etc etc

hi there im not sure what is exactly wrong but i just wanted to say i am havin the same problems and am currently tryin to fix it...so if i figure anything out ill let ya know. should figure it out pretty quick cuz i gotta finish puttin a dvd together this week.

Did you find a solution? I'm having the same problem with a VIA 1394 card and a Sony DCR-HC20.

unfortunatly i havent yet.....ive checked my mobos website and my manual as well as posted a couple other places.....no answer so far......ive got a pci firewire card outta my old pc i might have to throw in temporarily

I had a similar problem. The XP system recognised my firewire card but could not install it?? Said "data invalid." I had the same problem trying to install a printer.

I uninstalled XP Service Pack 2 and everything worked fine. Try it and let me know if it works.

I'm having problems with my VIA 1394 also, and it's been an expensive lesson. I plan on purchasing an Adaptec ASAP.

I'm not dealing with video, but audio. I found these discussions with a search on google.

I'm using a Tascam FW1884 that mysteriously stopped working when I moved my rig to a recording studio. I then brought it home and couldn't get the firewire to interface with my computer. I uninstalled the VIA and reinstalled in different pci slots to no avail.

I then purchased another firewire device from MAudio to continute working on my project. I made the brutal mistake of also disconnecting it and moving the computer and firewire device to recording studio and could not get the firewire to work.

I've brought it home and followed the same steps, i.e., uninstalling, replacing cables, etc.

Now I have two firewire devices which will not talk to my computer via the VIA 1394....I'm thinking it's the card...

After seeing your posts, I think I'm right.

I'm using Windows XP Home and a P4.

I think there might be a few issues here. I found this thread while searching for a solution for making a sony dcr-hc20e (pal version) talk via virewire. It will not show up under windows XP pro SP1.

The same camera also will not talk directly to a sony dcr-trv-120e. Both cameras say DV-in. If i sent output fron the 120e, you dont see anything on the hc20e.

if you turn off the 120e, the hc20 doesnt say dv in anymore.

the 120e talks to windows xp fine via the same firewire cable and config. I get all the same results on my girlfriends pc.

The camera belongs to a mate, and on his computer the hc20e works! The only think I could think of was the sony usb drivers somehow make firewire work. I installed them on my machine, but still no go. Maybe its something else on the original CD that isnt mentioned on sonys site?

Im pretty sure the hc20 is at fault somehow. At the very least it should talk direct to another sony firewire cam. Yes, the 120e has been proven to talk to other sony cams via firewire!

I am experiencing the same problem with a Sony DCR HC-30. It did work 1 time for 1 day but ever since, the camera is not recognized when I hook it up to the Firewire port. The same thing happens on a different XP Home computer as well as an Apple computer. If anyone has any clues, please let me know.

I am having the same problem with my Sony DCR-TRV130 Camcorder. It has worked fine for months and then stopped working a few days ago. Would also appreciate if someone knows what the problem is.

MANY MANY THANKS BOOKWORM!!! That worked a treat. I only had the VIA option and not the TI one (see D-Link site) and it worked just fine. HOORAY!!!

Guess what? My problem was a defective Firewire Cable. Tried all the tricks that I could think of and all that folks said to try. I have a Maxtor Drive that plugs into the Firewire card with a different cable and that worked fine. Also loaded Pinnacle 7 and that also wouldn't capture from my camcorder. It appeared that I had a defective firewire cable but I couldn't believe it. Bought a new one from Best Buy (they have great tecnical help) and sloved the probem.

Moon take a look at the above link, bind's was showing VIA which should have worked but didn't. Sony use i-link firewire so see if anything comes up for that instead of Texas Instuments.
