Install network printer - without cds

I have a Lexmark Optra M412 monochrome laser printer that has an in-built print server. However I no longer have the CDs that came with it. I want to install it as a network printer, but I have no idea where to start.

I have consulted the lexmark site and found a User Manual and a Reference Manual for the printer. Under the section titled Setting Up as a Network Printer the User Manual said 'refer to Reference Manual', and the Reference Manual said 'this topic is discussed in the User Manual'. Great.

I will be connecting the printer using to a NetGear WGR614v5 router, and I want to be able to print to it from a PC also connected to the router running Windows XP.

Any direction as to where I should start would be appreciated!

You do not say what operating system you use and if you already have the other computer networked via the router. You should'nt need any special printer software as long as it is up and running on one machine. I'm going to assume you are using Xp. Here are a couple of places to get some help. If you run into a snag get back to us. There are some real experts here on networking and I am not one of them.

Thanks for that, however I want to setup a network printer rather than a shared printer. Having a shared printer means that I have to have the computer it is connected to on in order to use the printer from another machine. If I can setup the printer as a network printer (it contains its own internal print server) then I can print to it from any computer without having to have a host computer turned on. Similar to the arrangement to what you would have in an office or a computer lab at a school.

Oh and I am using XP on 2 pcs and 2000 on a third. All the computers are networked via the router, and I want to attach the printer (directly using ethernet cable) to the router as well.
