Angry Help required with possible driver problem

So I did the thing most people do after installing SP2 and formatted my HD losing all my data. Anyway, can live with that. But after re-installing I have a problem now..1st, here's my system in a nutshell

AMD 2400+
1Gig Ram
160Gig HD
GeForce4 Ti4200 with AGP 8X graphic card
Win XP Pro (SP1 and VERY happy with it!)
McCaffee Internet Security
DirectX 9c

Before i formatted I used to run LOTR Battle for Middle Earth among other games just fine. Now everytime I try to start it up the PC just completely freezes. Sometimes it does work, but mostly just freezes up.

I upped my screen refresh rate from 60Mhz to 75Mhz and that seemed to solve the problem for about 24 hours and then everything froze again. All my drivers are the latest and work just fine. This also happens when I try and start big resource hogging programs like games or CAD, MS Visual Studio etc. Everything just bloody freeze! Can it be the Graphic Card???

ANY ideas, no matter how far out, will be tried!!

What a hastle...you have poo loads of memory dont you..

I had a similar problem with a pc with about 1/3 of your specs.. turned out it was a lose memory sim. I remember a situation where removing a video card and reinstalling it fixed probs with freezing...likewise with memory. If you do make sure you only turn off the power at the wall and dont unplug it..it should be earthed.

It really sounds like its intermittant hardware fault not the O/S or bad drivers..

I personally have seen Pcs spring into life with a slap!!

Good Luck

Ray Incidenatlly My Packard bell uses 64meg shared video and is on 85mhz refresh.

You don't actually say what your motherboard is... ? Did you reinstall the chipset drivers after your new install? Have you checked system devices for any yellow flags?
