Can you go here http://pcworld.ipi.net/ and follow this path

Launch the site > Support Center > Advent Laptops > 7xxx range > 7045 notebook > on the right No sound from headset ( or headphones ) when connect > in top right hand corner see Related FAQs > No sound from speakers, but headphones

Cheers

Hya Bookworm,

I am very grateful for your assistance.
Thank you!!!!!!

I have done all of the above but still no luck.
While I was looking in device manager under Sound, video and game controllers.
I was checking all the properties of the drivers and codecs listed.
Under Legacy Audio Driver I can find nothing listed in properties
Under Lecacy Video capture devices nothing listed in properties.

Does that mean the above driver and device is not installed?

I know that you must use your valuable spare time to answer these questions thanks again.

Bye Beej

We haven't updated the chipset driver, but I am not sure what chipset you need, I know you have a SiS board, and this from SiS is the Chipset Identifyer, it will tell you which chipset drivers you need, there are 2 listed for your comp 650 Northbridge + 916,Southbridge I know we have updated 650 once but that was just for graphis, the 916 Southbridge is the one that deals with AC'97 Audio and this way there can be no doubt,if any confusion just post back with what it says you need.

Well I don't believe it, Advent do not show your model on their site, but still advertised for sale ) it's been mostly guess work, not now. Get the IDE SiS IDE Controller this is your chipset driver, download and install, if still no sound go back and get the Audio SiS 7012 Audio Controller and install. This should do it.

Hope this helps

Hya Bookworm,

I have downloaded both the controller and audio.

The problem which is happening now is that it is not playing the CDs.

It stopped playing CDS after I downloaded the audio driver

Under SiS 7012 Audio Driver Properties ,General it says
"This device cannot start (code 10)

I do not know if i mentioned this before but in Sound and Audio Properties
Under Volume Tab

It has a picture of a sound icon and beside it say "No Audio Device"

Does this mean i do not have a sound card ?

As every I will await your reply

What's wrong?

I have no idea why, but my sound suddenly stopped working. I checked my device manager and all my sound controller devices seem to be working properly. I tested my speakers on a different device and they seem to be working fine so I am sure it is a computer software or audio card issue. Since I could find nothing wrong with the audio card I decided to install a different soundblaster audio card which I had in a previous pc, and download the most recent drivers. Still no sound. It seems as though everything is working correctly, I just get no sound. I also made sure that my system sound is turned up and also checked all of my media software to make sure none were on mute. Somewhere in a previous post someone wrote that there sound was turned off through BIOS. I am not sure how to check that, but it seems to me as though it is that type of problem. Anyway I have also attached the Belarc info in case there is something I missed. Thanks!

You have 2 sound devices, can you go to Device manager Right click My Computrer > Properties >Hardware Tab > Device Manager > expand Sound, video and game controllers > check the Soundblaster and C-media right click > Properties > on the General tab under device Usage is " Use this device ( enable ) shown, Under Properties check each entry to see if useing same audio device that you have just enabled, the one that is in the comp must be set to enable and the other set to disable.I'm not sure about your board but Intel boards automatically disable onboard sound in BIOS when a sound card is fitted, the reference will most likley be Device manager..

Hope this helps
