2 questions, which country was this comp produced for
, and can you go to Control Panel > Sound & Audie Devices > Hardware Tab > Properties > are any listings shown as an Audio device, AC'97 perhaps. Have you had a sound card installed in place of the onboard sound.

Hope this helps

Unhappy NO Sound! No Windows Sound! No Click Sound with mouse!

I was listening my favorite musics on my laptop computer (Compaq Presario 1200, 12XL300) untill Nov 4, 2005. Suddenly, my sound died.
I did Audio / Sound Test at Control Panel. It showed an Error Code:0x80004005. I did "Factory Restore" for twice. But, I still don't have any sound from my speakers.
I have done Uninstall & Reinstall audio drivers by removing from Device Manager. (More than 10 times? )I also did Update the driver. (I plug in separated speakers to this laptop computer. Sound is still gone!!)
Now, my microphone works. But, I still don't have any sound as before.
I have NO SOUNDS for Window startup, mouse clicking, all of the IM (Buzz) sound, download is completed, update is completed.
I have done Scandisk, also, scanned for Virus & Spyware. My pc is clean from them.
I checked my BIOS. It says "Default System BIOS".
No Sound at DirectX(9.0c), either. The Error Code:0x00000000=HRESULT :eek
My Operation System is MS Me.
I have been working on this problem since Nov 4, 2005 (I have not slept well since then). I am so tired. Before I get sick or my chronic illness attack me, I need a help as soon as possible.

Compac are giveing nothing away about which chipset or sound drive is installed on your comp, can you get Belarc Advisor here http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
and copy and paste the results, then I should be able to identify the board.

Hope this helps

Additional Information / Registry

I have been scanning my Registry with "TuneUp Utilities 2006 / Registry Cleaner". It always shows problems on my registry. I wonder my registry is messed up. I fixed all of those problems and backed up those corrections.
In before, I have adjusted / modified "FuLLDuPLex"=3 items manually when I have received the Error Code:0x80004005. But, this Error Code is gone by performing "Factory Restore".

Take a look at this from Compac, look under notebooks before 2004, post back the numbers, also what driver does it show in Device Manager for AC'97 driver.

Hope this helps

However, I STILL have NO Sound!! I wonder where did it go? Very tiny sound came back when I performed "Factory Restore". But, it faded. Now, it is gone. I knew my speaker was making scrachy noise while I operate this notebook. Now, all of the sound is gone except a loud Click Noise when I up & down my audio volume.

I had installed Real Player / Newer one. But, It caused problem that I can not use Window Media Player. I just removed / uninstalled this Real Player to resolve the error. I wish my sound comes back. So, I can listen to music and relax & rest, sleep. (( I have no DVD player, no music player / no CD player as home stereo system. It has been too quiet and bored. This laptop music player was keeping me so relaxed.))

I have tested my Microphone function at one of chat program. People in the room can hear my voice in nice & clear. But, I hear nothing from my speakers. I can tell they are talking from Mic icon.

P.S.: I love CCleaner!! I have been using this free software for a long time to keep my hard drive space opened. In before, I used to clean by clicking "Internet Option" and manually cleaning every so often. But, I created a shortcut at "Start Menu"!! It is great one! thank you. I also use R-Wipe & Clean!! I love this software, too.

I often scan for MS "Windows Update" from Start menu. I just wonder I have problem with "Window Media Player 9.0" that I have now. Cause, it keep saying to download and install this:Critical Update for Windows Media Player Script Commands (KB828026) !!even I have downloaded & installed this update
I have searched this update software at MS website and downloaded & installed. But, it stilll keep saying I need to install this Critical Update!
I wonder I can repair "Window Media Player" from Control Panel / Add & Remove Programs? or Uninstall and Reinstall this IF I can not sleep well tonight.
I know I need rest.zzzzz. Maybe, my laptop need to rest, too?
Again, thank you for supporting me.

Check out the small independant computer vendors, not one attatched to any large independants. A small one man band works for me, ask for advice and make a note of which sound card he says you need. Then check online sellers for a price, go back and ask for a price for fitting. It may not turn out as exspensive as you think. It's what I do when I upgrade, and my techi says Compac are the best laptops.

Hope this helps
