Check these out
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

Did you get the driver from here

http://ts.hercules.com/eng/index.php...2&pid=15&cid=1

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

If you have a Windows disc
Try a System File Check go to Run – type “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes and note space after sfc) have Win disc available in case sfc needs to replace or repair any files. The programme runs with no alerts and then closes.

omggggggg you are a miracle worker, i don't know what you did. like the step you told me. i already had it started and automatic

then i went to check the site you gave me. which didn't help me. but it gave me a link to the hp software download page.

from there i downloaded, Spring 2006 Original Intel Chipset Drivers and installed it, i then proceed to download Spring 2006 Original Realtek High Definition Audio Drivers . but it dind't work claiming that I needed UAA HD bus driver, I thought I already installed this before, but I came across this download. and after installing and restarting my sound just worked. I realize that the UAA HD bus driver i installed was R1.75 and this one i recently download was R1.72. how weird. o well thx for the help, your link, led me to another link, which led me to download an older version of UAA and it work. i'm so happy

Sorry for repost I just figured more likely to get help here:

My family computer has been without sound for a good few months and we've almost come to get used to it.
We think it happened after my older brother went through old programes un-installing them.
None of us know what to do but from looking through this site I have done the Belarc Analysis and this is what it shows:
