Try installing this way, load the motherboard disc into the drive, then close the programe. Go to Device Manager / right click Soundmax audio or the device that is yellow flagged - select Update driver / No, not this time /Next / select Install software automatically ( Recommended ) / Next

Device Manager should find the driver from the disc and install

I recently updated this computer to Windows XP, it was using ME (death) I forgot to back up the drivers (as usual) been searching for an audio driver that would work, and can't seem to find a solution so I'm finally asking for help heh. Here is the Everest report. Thank you for your time. Oh on a side note, I did check PCChips website and matched the driver with my MOBO and I keep getting broken links or corrupted downloads. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks again.

Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

check to see if realtek st as default audio
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Are your audio plugs on the I/O plate or in a expansion slot, see here, click image to focus http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

if on the I/O plate go here to HP and install the Ati chipset drivers - then Restart your comp, then install audio again

I have already tried downloading a driver from the internet which was specifically for acer 1640 and same as the driver i had in my cd,but of no use...i got the same message again...please help me find a way out of this problem

Thanks in Advance
Manu

Try the driver from Realtek http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

If you still get the No INF then go here to Acer and install the Chipset driver - after installation Restart your comp - then install audio again
