If your laptop is an Advent 7035 or 7045 then the sound driver is a Realtek AC'97.

Create a System Restore Point just in case

Then go here to get your driver http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True

Hope this helps

Hello Bookworm,

My laptop is advent 7048

The downloads have solved half of my problem as it is now playing the cd and not giving me the error message.

The only thing is now i can not hear the cd. I have looked at the volume and everything is on high except for when i go into
volume.... device volume it will not let me move from low to high and the box is not highlighted.

I also have a yellow question mark in devices beside video controller (vga compatible)

Thank you for your assistance so far and if you could save me a trip down to pc world i would be grateful

thanks

Beej

Advent have their own help forum here http://www.w00tw00t.co.uk/support/viewtopic.php?t=223

the first is your lappy and sends you here http://www.sis.com/download/

when you get to Sis first choose
IGP Graphic Drive > then SiS 650 & SiS 740 > then Win XP > Go and there is your driver.

Hope this helps

Hya Bookworm,

Those downloads were great and have no more yellow questions marks he he , the only thing is i still can not hear any sound when i play my cds.

The cd plays but can not hear sound i think it might be something to do with

Sound and Audio Devices Properties...

Volume....

Device Volume

It still will not let me move from low to high volume and the fields still will not
highlight.

Another thing I noticed is that under programs it is only listing SIS 650 and not SIS 740 as well.

I am sure that I have installed it properly as I just pressed Set Up Launcher but I think it has only set up SIS 650, I have hunted around the files and can not come up with anything else apart from Progress MFC Application which has a icon that looks like a set up launcher.

Pls Bookworm HELP!!!!!

You have been a star so far and we are so close to solving the problem

Thanks Beej

You should only have SiS 650 this is your chipset, the site says that the same driver is used on boards that have either of these chipset installed.

Can you check Device Manager > Sound, video & game controllers .> double click Realtek AC'97 > General Tab > at the bottom in Device Usage: is " Use this device ( enable ) showing.

Hope this helps

The only other thing is the Intel Chipset Driver, can you go here to Intel and run the utillity to identify your chipset. Use the first one it's newer.http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

Post back any result, if you get them

Hope this helps

Hya Bookworm,

I downloaded CHIPUTIL but when I it ran it gave me this error.

"Error has occured in the script of this page"

Error 'NONINTEL ERR IN UNDEFINED'

I then tried to delete CHIPUTIL but it says it is being used by another progam.

I then done a system restore for a couple of days back but the CHIPUTIL is still there can not delete it.

I hope you can give me some advice and also thank you for coming back to me all the time I hope we can solve this saga soon

start in Safe Mode ( press F8 continually at startup ) and delete file then.
Now this may seem a daft question, but can you hear sound when you plug headset into CD or DVD drive.

Hope this helps
