Exclamation Help problem with Sound !!!!

Hi !

I received the following error message when I played as sound file.

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

How should I solve that problem

And I also want to know whether my computer has installed sound card or not.
How can I know that?

Sounds to me like your sound drivers have gone west. Device manager will tell you what sound (onboard/card) you have. Once you have identified what you have d/load and install the appropriate drives from the manufacturers website.

audio driver problems!!!

I formatted my parents computer the other day because they had some major virus issues. Then when I went to use windows media player I noticed that it was not recognizing any audio devices or drivers. Then I looked in the device manager and there was a ? mark on the multimedia audio controller. I tried using the cd to install the audio driver, and it would not install. Then I could not figure out, which model I had so I went into the cd's properties, and found out that it was c-media 8738. I went online to find a driver for that model to d/l. I found one and d/l it to my computer. Once I d/l the driver I clicked on setup and box popped up saying that it could not install because there was no audio chip??? or something like that? Does anyone know what I should do. I know that when the computer was bought there was sound, so I know that there should be a chip there. PLEASE HELP BEFORE MY DAD KILLS ME! lol

Send a message via ICQ to VirusEJ
Do you mean no Audio Chipset? - If so you need to download those seperatly.

Let me guess this was a computer from Tiny Computers? And I bet the motherboard is a Micro-Star International.

What you might find useful is an app called Belarc, which runs on your PC and generates a report, which us techie's can use to help you out.

You can download it here: http://www.download.com/Belarc-Advis...-10007277.html

Once that is complete, send me the report, and I will try and find the appropriate sound drivers.

Do what virusE says and download Belarc Advisor it will give you all the information you need including your motherboard make and model.

Question No sound

My sound has just gone. It doesn't say there are any errors or anything, I just don't hear anything.

I've checked the speakers, and there is no sound with headphones anyway, so it's not that..
Help?

Sixteen we need a little more information, get Belarc here www.belarc.com and run. Then come back with the make and model of your Sound Card. The more information you give about your system the better we are able to help.

akago go here Gigabyte Technologies is your motherboard, your sound card is Realtek ALC655, this will check your computer for all drivers to your motherboard including your onboard sound http://tw.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/...adCenter_1.htm
Hope this helps.

Mr. Retardo your motherboard is an AOpen AX45-V and your onboard sound is Realtek AC/97 go here to get the driver http://download.aopen.com.tw/default.aspx
When you get to site In Select a Product - from the drop down list choose motherboard - on next screen in Select a Model - scroll down to AX45-V - there under Driver you will see Audio driver R3.43 7/26/2004 the driver for Win XP

Hope this helps.

I can't seem to find it. It told me to download these Intel 825XX Series LAN Driver, RealTek AC97 Codec Driver and INF Update Utility. Should I download all of them, or just one.
EDIT:I downloaded them but i still can't hear a thing. Anyone know what to do.
Thanx
