Question immediate help needed on ATI driver

On our computer we have an ATI (RAGE 128 ULTRA 32M AGP) card that we can't get connected. We have tried downloading many drivers but none seem to want to work. Several have said that i must have DirectX 8 to install them but a download for DirectX 8 can't be found anywhere. They are all like 8.1 or 9.0 and they haven't worked. There is one thing in the display drivers that i cant recall the name of but it has said 'this display driver is not compatible with the display adapter(s) installed'.

What do i do???

If the card is compatible with directX 8 it will also be compatible with any minor update to the 8 series such as 8.1 -- so that's not the problem. You seem to have the wrong device driver for the card judging by the error message, and it needs to be compatible with your version of Windows (which you have not disclosed). Here are some links to the relevant page on the ATI website:

ATI Rage Driver for Windows XP :https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27
(the Rage 128/128 Pro Driver should work with your Ultra card)

ATI Rage Driver for Windows 98 : https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27

ATI Rage Driver for Windows ME : https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27

The Rage 128 Ultra is not listed in any of the links, but the 'Rage 128/128 Pro' driver should be fine.

Well what he's trying to explain, is that the driver installation itself, require that directx 8.0 has been previously installed.

So he's probably confused, and as I do, he must suspect that the error message is not correct.

This is exactly the drivers he must have downloaded, as I did.

So I got exactly the same issue, and I can't get this card working for now.

I should perhaps add, that I'm a profesionnal IT manager and that I'm very experienced ( 10 years ). But for now, I didn't spend more that 20 minutes on this problem.

I have the same graphics card and had the same problem. Go to the above link and download the file. You must install the driver as per the supplied instructions. This is the only driver I got that works

I had the same error message with my ATI Rage 128 Pro video card install onto Windows 2000. I tried every driver under the sun before I came across one that installed. Turns out the card originally came from a Dell Dimension 4100 and even though I wasn't installing it into a Dell computer, the only driver that ended up working was the corresponding driver downloaded from the Dell support website: http://support.dell.com/ - I did a search on "ati rage pro windows 2000 driver"
