Sorry to be such a pain, but I was able to run Sound Max Install Shield (don't ask me how) and it looked great until it said, "Driver not found. Reboot your system and run this setup again." I did. Nothing-well, same thing. I truly apologize for this. I am at a loss.

you're on the right track, look down the list of files for the .exe file or installer file, double click that

I think the train has become derailed or at least there isn't a right track for me...

I know you're not going to believe this(or maybe you will) I don't see an .exe file or installer file. There are 7 folders that are shown after double clicking on the original folder that downloaded, as well as 19 files. The folders are: Migrate, Redist, SM_Panel, SM_Sensa, SMAXWDM, Sound MAX Synthesizer, Sys.

The files are: 269601USA8, adminchk.dll, AEEnable, data.tag, data1, data1.hdr, data2, ikernel, layout, noncompi, nocompu, RemADI, Setup, Setup (again), setup(yet again), Setup.iss, SMax.3CP, SoundMAX, win256_3.

Sorry...and thank you.

OK, here we go, I will post two links for you, just click on the links, Pic 1 shows a file similar to the one you would have downloaded in two forms, zipped and unzipped.

Pic 1

The second link, Pic 2, will show you the file to look for in the unzipped folder, simply double click on that and the auto installer will run.

Hi-thank you so much for your help. Unfortunately, I did manage to get thru that InstallShield, but when it got to the end it said:

"Driver not found. Reboot your system and run setup again". Of course I did that, and it did the same thing again.

I don't get it. Am I not INSTALLING the driver?!?!?!?

Most people, as I've seen in the threads, get one or two suggestions and...Problem solved! But, noooooooo, not me!!!

If you want to give up on this, I understand. I realize I'm not the only one out there who needs assistance. There is something I'm obviously missing here, despite your help. I appreciate all your suggestions, time and patience with me, ANZAC_ELITE. Also, thanks to bookworm.

Between this and my son's MSN friends popping up continually (even though he's signed off and exited?!?!?) I'm losing it. And of course, it's that "beep" when they pop up, because I have no sound...I could scream! Sorry-had to vent a bit. I'm okay now.

Thanks again.

Also look at this post, check out PsYsHo problem and reply 35 http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com...5&page=3&pp=15
Similar problem as yours and it's a HP

Hope this helps

well I did a search and after several articles found one that stated that the Asus P4G800-V.is the closest to this board

so ...... step 1

go here

Asus drivers d/load link

step 2

select m/board in "select product"
select socket 478 in "select series"
select P4G800-V in "select models"

select drivers tab
download the second driver in the list.

Version 3.43 2003/07/08update
OS Win98SE / WinME / Win2K / WinXP
Description Avance AC'97 Drivers and Applications V3.43 for Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP
File Size 3.42 (MBytes)

follow the same procedure as with the soundmax ones you tried.

Hopefully this will work
good luck

post back and let us know how you got on

I downloaded it and extracted all files, but I can't seem to open it. There are no .exe files but there is one with a picture beside it that looks like a blue lobster with claws raised (I know...sounds weird ) called Sound Man Realtek Sound Manager. I clicked on that, hopeful that it was the right one, but it did nothing. There seems to be no wizard to install.

Do you think there is something wrong in BIOS? Is it possible (of course it is) that I did something wrong when I formatted? Is there something within audio in there that I may have messed up inadvertently? I think this pc had on-board sound, but a sound card was added, if I'm reading my stuff correctly. If this is correct, then the on board sound in BIOS should be disabled, correct? As you can tell, I'm grasping at straws here. Deep breath...

........but a sound card was added.........

makes a big difference, we've been trying to enable onboard sound, lol, no wonder it isn't working. Do you have the drivers disk for the sound card/ or know what the sound card is?

uh...sorry...I guess I should have thought about that sooner. But it really didn't eve cross my mind until bookworm sent me to this sight for troubleshooting your sound. It said "if your computer has sound plugs in two locations, a soundcard has been added". Now, I looked at the back of mine and there are three plugs just below my ethernet cable, orange, light green and I think blue and then four smaller ones horizontally, at the bottom of the panel where the plug for my speakers is connected right now. Sounds right?

As for the card...don't have a clue (are you surprised?!?!?). How do I find that out. I'm afraid you're going to say that I'm going to have to take the back off and look for the card, right?

Thank goodness you seem to have a sense of humour...I was glad to see the "lol" in your post. Sorry for wasting so much of your time these last couple of days. You guys have been great. I'm very appreciative. Live and learn!!!

Just a thought:

I checked Everest and under "audio adapter" it says,

"Creative EMU10K2 Audigy/Audigy 2 Audio Processor". Is that helpful, or am I still pulling the back off?

OK I think we have a break through here,

go to this site,

Creative d/load site link

there are two ways to approach this, first I recommend the manual way:

1/. Select Soundblaster in "Select your product"

2/. Select Audigy 2 in the second field

3/. Select Audigy 2 in the third field, then click next, when that page loads at #4 select drivers, then click go

4/. Click on the download for the driver at the top of the page (#1)

5/. Agree to the licence

6/. Save the driver to a folder (it is 16.3MB)

7/. Double click the file to install. (It is an auto installer)

This should fix your problem, I hope, lol

Good luck, post back and let us know how you got on
