You're trying to update the drivers -
Why don't you try and uninstall the drivers and restart the Pc see if it auto restarts.
You might get a message regarding found new hardware -
Let it connect to the internet and download the relevant drivers itself.

When I format and load a fresh install of XP pro but before I install any drivers, if I look in device drivers through control panel there is a yellow warning flag alongside 'multimedia audio device' with no reference to any specific soundcard. Then if I click update driver and point to the AC97 driver I had before which was working fine when it installs I get the code 10 error.
I have since tried about 10 different versions of the AC97 WDM codec combo driver which I have acquired from the internet but every one gives code 10
I even tried in desperation to load a realtek ac97 driver but had same response code 10
If this was a tower I could easily just buy and install a new soundcard and driver but being a notebook that option is not applicable

Get Everest http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml
post the My Computer/Summary section, see if it gives a motherboard, but I suspect that the sound is disabled in the BIOS. That's what happened to me on my nephews comp. The problem with an OEM BIOS is that sections are removed so it can be difficult to alter. Post the report and see what it gives
Cheers

Iv'e seen this at Ei Systems, I was hopeing that Everest would give a clue to the motherboard, as I suspected there is no way to enable sound in the BIOS, it is not the standard AMI BIOS, but you can update the chipset, go here to Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21
it's No:4 in the list, the Software Updaate Utility, install then RESTART your comp.
Don't forget the Restore Point
Hope this helps

I already downloaded the intel chipset update before and following a clean install of windows XP this was the first thing I installed.
Beginning to resign myself to the fact we may never get the sound fixed on this notebook.
formatted 3 times
Tried umpteen ac97 driver versions
Updated the chipset
Tried other sound drivers (realtek and SIS)
nothing seems to work
I found this in an everest report about the motherboard
Motherboard ID: 63-0100-000001-00101111-101303-i845$1ABHI016
Motherboard Name: Unknown
Motherboard Chipset: Intel Brookdale Gi845GEV
Audio Adapter: Intel 82801DB ICH4 - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-0]
Hope you can help further

Have a look at these 2 possibilities
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / Services / scroll to Windows audio - should be set to Automatic
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.
Cheers

Hi,
I've scoured through this thread and seem to have the same problems as some and can't seem to find a way to sort it out...
I get the infamous code 10 and I have been told to turn the device on in BIOS but it doesn't seem to be in BIOS...
how else can I get around this problem? As I'm 99% sure that the problem is the device not being switched on in BIOS...
thanks,
Pete

What make and model is your comp, makers alter the BIOS from the standard, and one thing they do is take away the facillity to adjust the BIOS, but usally they do have a method of resetting the BIOS to Default.
Go here, enter model then contact, ask which key restore the BIOS default http://www.pcservicecall.co.uk/support
Hope this helps

EI System driver problem
Hi
May be you have fixed this by now
Ei Sytems notebooks are I believe made by Medion they have a website
www.medion.co.uk and they have links to software advice on that page.
If all else fails, www.pcanswers.co.uk is a computer mag that has advice options on its site
On a desktop ~ if you take the motherboard battery out it resets the bios settings to the original after replacing it. That is if you can get to the motherboard on the Ei system notebook.
Just wondering if you have any idea where I can find key replacement keyboard keys for the Ei System [notepad model 2020 ]~ two have been damaged and keep falling off....

Found 'em :)
I have found myself at this forum having just got one of these laptops come into my shop needing to be sorted out.
Go here:
http://www.pcservicecall.co.uk/layout.aspx?ID={be9790f3-706c-427d-859e-c50637bbfab2}&CatID={03f4ce5f-c475-4977-a0f2-9779b833a16b}
There's not much in the downloads section but if you click on the Hardware link, then select each of the hardware items, some of them have links to their respective drivers on the right hand side of the screen.
Hope this helps. Glad I found somewhere new to give and get help =D
Sennie.

EI Systems - Drivers
Drivers for an EI Systems laptop can be obtained from the PC World website, as this make of laptop is exclusive to them. Go to the support page within this site and you will be able to look up the model number that you require and then download the drivers you need.
Please note, most EI Systems laptop use an integrated Intel chipset, so there will be a good chance you will be able to get generic sound and graphics drivers from Intel's website. You should be able to identify the exact chipset from PC World's website support page.
Hope this helps!

Hi guys,
I'm a computer technician at a repair centre and I've managed to put together a few drivers which work on *A LOT* of Ei System laptops.
As you can imagine, we have a lot in for re-installations and driver installations.
The address I've uploaded them to is my (small) forum where I upload some of the more peculiar problems I encounter.
http://www.conceptex.co.uk/showthread.php?t=35
If they work for you, please don't screw me and steal my credit like Toshiba did. Yes, that's right, Toshiba screwed me. I solved a problem they couldn't and they took my credit. Bah.
