Hi Babara,
I read through your earlier replies to othe members, found someone with the same model as my mother board Intel D850MV and saw your replies.
I downloaded the file from intel, unzipped it into a folder, which is split into a few sub-folders- [Migrate XP,Redist,SMAXWDM(SE,W2K),SoundMax Control Panel(Sys),SoundMax Sensaura 3D(Sys/Wave),SoundMax Synthesizer(DLS/Sys)].
When I tried to update the driver for Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio with Device Manager, I don't seem to be able to select a precise location/file for the driver.
Hope you are able to help me with this.Thank You!

had a look at the download, there is a file (not folder ) Setup - Install Shield(R) Setup launcher ( blue with what looks like a comp ), use this to install
Hope this helps

Hi Babara,
Thank you so much for your reply!
I ran the set up file, it uninstalled the previous version, and re-installed the driver. After re-starting the PC, at the Device Manager, the SoundMax Integrated Digital Audio still has an exclamation mark in front, and there is still the msg " this device cannot start (code 10)" . I wonder what steps have I missed out?
Greatly appreciate your help again!

Do you still have an unknown device error, where are your radio jacks, are they near the keyboard and mouse sockets on the I/O plate or lower down in an exspansion slot, you could have a sound card installed.

Hi Babara, Thank you for your patience in helping me to solve the problem.
YES! I still have an unknown device error, which shows as Location: on LifeView Fly TV Prime 30, there is a msg "the device is not configured correctly(code 1)", though my LifeView Fly TV Prime 30 seems to be "working properly" as shown in the device manager.
Every time I restart my PC, there is always msg that says it detected new hardware-Printer(which I didn't connect), and Media (which I am not sure what is it exactly that was detected.
I am not sure about your other questions, as I know very very very little about hardware.

Toshiba Dynabook TX 2513CMSW no sound
Hi
I am having trouble to get sound working on a Toshiba Dynabook TX 2513CMSW (sold only in Japan) with Win XP SP2 installed. Everest tells me:
Geräteeigenschaften
Gerätebeschreibung Audiocontroller für Multimedia
Hardwarekennung PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&SUBSYS_04121179&REV_03
Location Information PCI-Bus 0, Gerät 31, Funktion 5
PCI-Geräte Intel 82801DBM ICH4-M - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-1]
I cannot locate a driver for this Dynabook model on Toshibas Dynabook homepage - only for TX/5 and higher models. http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools
I assume a Realtek ALC250 AC 97 driver might work too ?
Any help appreciated...
Regards

What does Everest give at the begining, it's the motherboard and the chipset I'm interested in, can you post that please.
Cheers

Hello i see you are really good at this Bookworm/Barbara =) so maybe you could find a solution in my sound problem as well. Just got this computer and can't figure out why my audio drivers don't want to install, the setup fails in the beginning and when i try to install the SoundMAX ADI1988 Audio Driver from the motherboard CD it says (roughly translated, finnish windows), "HD Audio controller is needed, but it couldn't be found from the system".
Here's what my winamp gave for the error message: "Bad DirecSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078. (Well obviously there ain't no drivers but this kinda gave me hope that the audio device in the motherboard might not be broken and the problem could possibly be solved with some file.)
In BIOS i have Onboard devices-> HD audio controller Enabled
Front panel support type is set to AC97 (other option is HD AUDIO)
I went to the manufactorers site, asus.com (should be intel instead?) and set motherboard/Socked775/P5B, it wasn't this file: SoundMAX Audio Driver v5.10.01.4530 for Windows XP(WHQL) (version 5.10.01.4530). I tried to install this and it just gave me the same crap as the motherboard CD did, setup fails and "HD Audio controller is needed, but it couldn't be found from the system".
When i go to My computer device control i have Other devices -> PCI Device yellow.
Computer info, Everest:
Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600
Motherboard: Asus P5B (3 PCI, 3 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN)
Chipset: Intel Broadwater P965
Bios: AMI (09/06/06)
Soundcard: Analog Devices AD1988 @ Intel 82801HB ICH8 - High Definition Audio Controller [B-0]
This is the info from the pc-store of the motherboard: ASUS-P5B-Intel-LGA775-Core2
ADI 8-channel HD Audio
If you need more info let me know.
Edit: Also downloaded belarc and it doesn't give any info of the audio, multimedia -> none detected.

The PCI device could be a sound card installed, are your Radio jacks low down the tower in an expansion slot, if they are then you have a sound card installed, if higher up the tower near mouse and keyboard then onboard, if they are onboard go here th Asus http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us
first on the Utilities TAB scroll to the Intel Chipset Update Programe and install then RESTART your comp.
Then install the audio driver again
Hope this helps
