Check this out

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

If no sound go back to Dell http://support.euro.dell.com/support...os=WW1&osl=EN#

Chipset > install the Intel 800 Series Intergrated Chipset

Then install audio again

DON'T FORGET THE RESTORE POINT JUST IN CASE

Hope this helps

In case you mean the jacks where i put my headphones, they are close to the mouse and the keyboard. It's just the usb slot that seperates them. Thanks for your unending support.

Take a look here http://www.overclockeddoc.com/

under Sound Issues look at donald92ducks post, RB-Rocket explains how to manually install the driver, substitute your multimedia problem device, and see if you can install that way.

One other point, RB-Rocket advices against letting Windows search online at M$ to install the driver, if this way does not work it may be another way to install.

AS ALWAYS BEFORE YOU INSTALL ANYTHING SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT JUST IN CASE

Hope this helps

Have a look at the manual, just choose language http://support.euro.dell.com/support...stems/opgx240/

need to check if audio is enabled in the Bios, look at page 50, and 56, note the keystrokes.

The manual says it's an Intel 845 chipset, update from Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

Hello, working on a system for a co-worker. Having issues after the system was restored back to manufacturer defaults. Essentially all is running back to normal except for the cursed sound problems.

Sony Vaio VGN-S260

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/mod...pl?mdl=VGNS260
audio driver - ADI® SoundMAX® Audio Device Driver will not install directly as it shows up as unsupported according to the installation prompt.

Currently a Soundmax driver (substitute that I found) is installed however no sound is available, via speakers nor through headphone output/sound out. Attempting to install a Realtek AC 97 fails due to hardware issues (blue screen) while installing the alcxwdm.sys file during driver installation.

Any ideas what may be the cause would be deeply appriated. Am new to this forum, please let me know if any further information is required.

Thank you members for any assistance.
