Toshiba L40-139 (MediaMarkt Notebook)

Hi, I've bought a Toshiba L40-139 Notebook with Vista.
I don't want to have Vista, so I removed it and installed XP SP2.
Mostly all devices I get to work, but not the SoundCard.
I can't find any working driver from the internet, not from Toshiba, nor the manufacturers.
At this moment I don't have the possibility to provide some more Information from Everest or Belarc Advisor, but I'll provide asap. You might be able to give me a hint what to try next also without this further Information. Toshiba has listed the Laptop in Service Pages, and provides Drivers, but only for Vista .

thx@all

Hello Barbara,
This might be my last hope. So hopefully you can save me.

Also in the Device Manager the Multimedia Audio Controller and the Conexant AC-Audio Link has a yellow exclimation mark!
I've tried the drivers provided through Gateway. Ive tried the 6.14.10.575 version. And tried the other way of 'update drivers' installation method.

Also I read somewhere that Gateway put the wrong drivers up for the Sound. Is that true? I also tried the Avance AC'97 drivers which did not work.

I also read somewhere that the drivers gateway provided are for Windows Xp Home and now that I have windows Xp Pro it doesnt work.

Sorry if I gave too much information and thanks in advance!!!

What model did you search, the report shows a Gateway 3550GZ and Conexant is not the audio, look at this http://support.gateway.com/support/d...=pn&param=4995

it shows Soundmax 5.12.01.5240 as audio for this model

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Need more info, make and model or Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates

Hi Barbara,

I thought I screwed up for a second there with the whole conexant deal. I initially entered my Serial number to get the drivers (the conexant driver)
Anyhow, I downloaded the driver from the link you provided. I tried the traditional way of using the setup.exe and then tried to Update Drivers and manually select the .inf file through Device Manager. It installs as Conexant AC-Link.
Conclusion, Gateway's driver doesnt seem to be correct nor work.

I'll post the belarc deal in a one second, just doing a windows auto update.

Edit: Thanks Barbara!

[quote=nathan168]Hi Barbara,

It's the Soundmax audio driver you need, not Conexant, did you install the Soundmax driver. Use the Update driver method in Device Manager by right clicking the Multimedia Audio that is yellow flagged and pointing Windows to the downloaded Soundmax driver.

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a
restore point and follow instructions
