OK this is killing me I've have had to format my hd time after time & re-install xp. Yes part of it is the multimedia audio controller, I have used the Belarc an will paste the info:

Board: Intel Corporation D865PERL AAC40926-205
Serial Number: BTRL43316632
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Intel Corp. RL86510A.86A.0076.P16.0404221643 04/22/2004

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 [Display adapter]
NEC LCD1915X [Monitor] (19.1"vis, s/n 42103116VJ, February 2004)

Creative Game Port
Creative SB Live! series
Multimedia Audio Controller

3.00 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Now I have gone to Intel's site an dl'd the audio driver but the pc will just completly kill the power before the drivers can install,
AUD_ALLOS_5.10.0.6020_PV_RealtekAC97
that is the driver & I have installed both ways using the auto & even just going through manager hitting properties update driver an pointing to the folder same thing will occur. The card is a Creative Sound Blaster Audiology 5.1 Platinum series & using the original disc's doesnt solve the problem, I have tried both ways installing drivers before getting the 2hr updates from windows & after neither way is working properly. What am I doing wrong?!?!?!

You are trying to install the onboard sound, when according to Belarc you have a SoundBlaster Live sound card, this is a link to the Creative SoundBlaster Live Platinum 5.1 driver. get the full package not the update.

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case

Did a little more digging at HP, found out the Vectra vl400 is the same as Vectra XE310, and HP have an audio for Win 2000, go here all instructions are given on how to install
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...mode=4&id x=0

I downloaded the file. and it appears to be a Crystal audio.

Hope this helps

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

Then go here to Dell http://support.euro.dell.com/support...os=WW1&osl=EN#

your audio is the ADI 198x

Hope this helps

Found out the motherboard for the Vectra vl420( HP usally use the same board on all models) is an ASUS, the driver most likley failed because it was for Win2000, ASUS have the WinXP driver for SoundMax
Go here to
ASUS http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

Top left under Downloads / Input Model to Search - type P4B / Search / P4B-MX all the drivers are listed.

hope this helps

You will have 2 sets of radio jacks on your comp, Realtek onboard will be near your other sockets e,g keyboard, mouse and usb, a Soundcard audio will be further down the tower, which ones are you connected to for sound.

Cheers

The audio controller is the same as an Audio Adapter, that is the Intel chipset that's on the board, different from the audio driver, that's why it drives us all mad LOL

Cheers
