Hi Bookworm,

I did install the realtek audio driver from thier website but it did not solve the problem. I reinstalled all the drivers that sony recommends from thier esupport website including the intel chipset and others. There is still no sound coming out. There is no sound icon in the the botttom right.

Secondly I have another problem now. My usb ports are not working at all. I would install one of the sony drivers and it would ask for a file called "usbuhci.sys". I downloaded a copy of that file from the internet and referred it to whenever the installation process would go on. Since then no usb ports either. I tried restoring my computer back too but that doesn't work either.

Did some major help. Please give me specific advice. Belarc profile is included in my previous post.

thanks

jr

Hi Bookworm,

You really have been so helpful to everyone, and we all really appreciate it. I was just wondering whether you could please solve this very similar problem for me. I did have the no audio response in my sound tabs. Yes, also with the yellow exclamation mark in the kernel audio mixer driver. I did delete and try to update the software with no success. Also, want through the sfc \scannow routine with no success. I did clean out the windows registry and fixed it and hacked in it just to tweak the settings. Now the sound works only in the microphone. Speakers are still dead. Managed to delete the Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio device by mistake (oops). Still only the microphone works perfectly. The problem is - that my Windows XP is almost 5 years old (Intel D845 WN) and does not seem to be supported any longer. Is there syill a down-load available? I did search everywhere on the internet. Please help.

Problems with mic

Wow, amazing what Google will bring you to innit?

Okay, I've got an on-board Intel sound system, the speakers work fine but I can't get the mic going no matter what I try. Oddly enough, the female plug on the back of the computer that is color coded to match the male plug on the mic is where the speakers are plugged in (and it's the only one that the speakers will work with).

Stats are as follows:
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
2.85 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P4XP-X REV 1.xx
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software, Inc. ASUS P4XP-X ACPI BIOS Revision 1004 03/17/2003
Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2442
Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM USB Universal Host Controller - 2444
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller (2x)
VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller

Not sure if that's all the info you need or not, but I didn't want to toss the whole kitchen sink in there.

Thanks ahead of time for the help!

I'm not sure why the Mic would not be working, as the speakers work ok, then your audio drivers are installed, it is more than likley a system setting, and I'm not too clued up on them. Start another thread, word it that your mic is not working, on of the techi gurus should answer. Sorry could not help more.

if you want to update the audio driver then go here to Asus http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

Input Model to Search - type P4XP-X / P4XP-X / Audio

Hope this helps
