need help where to locate the proper drivers. i've tried downloading from intel and acer but still no sound.

The only driver from Acer is for Win 2K
http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/for...rds=&areaid=12

install this way use the If No Setup File method
Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Go here to Acer Europe, install the Intel Chipset - then Restart comp, then install audio
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...iton_3200.html

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Hi Ms. Sound Queen =) awesome work around here. I'm also having a sound problem. I upgraded my win2k to winxp and the audio was a little staticy at first and then there's no sound at all. i did a scan using driver agent and it says my Intel(R) 82801BA Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 244B has a bad driver and it questions the driver for Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller

You appear to have a Compac, need the make and model, if not sure Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

the audio still isnt playing. when i executed the Realtek AC97 WDM Audio Driver i got a message which said it wasnt compatable with my os, giving me the option to continue anyways. i continued and my system restarted when it got halfway through. it wasnt installed that time so i tryed again through device manager. it was installed but device manager detected that "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing". Windows media player detected that no drivers were installed.

I've tried downloading everything from the link you supplied but none of them helped. I reverted back to my old driver but although there's still no audio, windows media player and device manager say that no problem is detected =/
