as you can see my onboard sound is installed but when i play Windows media player files it says the following

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.

You may need to get the motherboard drivers from http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us
First look in sounds & audio devices [via start/control panel] and on the audio tab see if your sound device is set as the default device in the playback section. If it's not there or it's greyed out try the site above for drivers.

edit; if you got a system disk with the computer the drivers should be on it.

Download new sound card driver

If you have or haven't yet downloaded an updated most recent driver for your sound card go to this site: http://www.download.com/Realtek-AC-9...-10433713.html
After the installation restart your computer.

If this dosen't work go to start, run, type in services .msc; then scroll down down until you find windows audio. Right click windows audio and select properties, then look for where it says startup type, make sure that selection is set to automatic. This should be the fix to it.
