Hi, im having some slight laptop troubles. I've reformatted and reinstalled everything and now can't get audio.

It appears to be because my onboard sound is not installed. I've tried adding the new hardware but when searching the wizard locks up for a couple of mins then i get a quick BSOD. I tried adding drivers myself but to no avail. after installing and retstarting the laptop gets into a boot loop, BSODing and restarting just as it gets to the desktop.

I've managed to boot in safe mode and remove the drivers and it stopped the constant BSODs.

Apparently i have "Via AC/97" sound.

Heres my Belarc report, hope you can help.

The good news I've found the drivers, but you need to be able to make an ISO cd to download them to, I don't know how to do this so I'm popping here to ask, if you know then I'll post the link

Hello again,

right, we have downloaded the driver and rebooted etc, still no sound, they do not have Realtek or anything on there system will they need this????. Basically surely the speakers would be plug and play wouldn't they????? What else should they have to get these speakers to work. They are seperate to the monitor.

I would be grateful of any ideas or sites that you have that I can get this problem sorted out.

Thanking you in advance.

Sue

You need the audio driver for speakers to work, check Device Manager anything yellow flagged

Also check this it should show Realtek as default audio
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substitute

Hope this helps

Hello agian,

Sorry to be a pain.

I checked the yellow flags in the device manager, there was one yellow flag, I can't remember exactly what it was no, com port or something, tried to get driver but couldn't locate or something. Ran realtek (didn't save to desktop or anything just ran it staight from the net), restarted puter, wouldnt let me choose Realtek in the sounds and devices it only gave me the option that you stated in your reply as to the problem. Im pulling my hair out, Don't know what to do. When I cheked the realtek it said device not working could not load 010 or somthing, Sorry Im a bit vague but it is my friends computer and I have to keep going round there to try and sort it out so havnt got the info right in from of me.

What do you suggest. I am at my wits end.

Thanking you in advance.

Go back to Gigabyte http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=1781

install the chipset driver, RESTART if told then install audio driver again

It's better to save the driver to the desktop, in case a manual install is needed

DON'T FORGET THE RESTORE POINT

Hope this helps

Dear All,

Mine is the usual story. Had to reinstall XP Home. When I did, I lost sound, and I can't for the life of me figure out how I overcame the driver problems time (I had them the first time I installed XP too). I have issues with the Multimedia Audio Controller, the PCI Serial Port, and the Video Controller (VGA Compatible). Any help with these would be appreciated.

I should point out that I was playing around with the drivers trying to get any sort of sound, and installed the Intel(R) AC'97 Audio Controller. I had some success in getting sound, but it only comes out of the box. Originally, the sound could come out of the box, or if speakers or earphones were plugged into the jack (at the front of the computer), then just through those. When I plug into that jack, it still comes out of the box, not the speakers and earphones.

My BelArc is listed below.

Cheers,

Hammerskojld.
