Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. M1689D
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. F3 07/25/2005

And under Multimedia all that is listed is Standard Game Port. I'm stumped at this point and any help would be greatly appreciated.

M1689D leads to a Gigabyte K8u board, it has Realtek AC'97 audio here is the link http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=1876

The driver version you need is V5.12.01.3665, try installing this way, use the If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

hello, i just reformatted, i tried to install the drivers for my sound card, but it tells me that it cant install because i have no sound card connected. i had a look in device manager and my sound card isn't even on the thing, just a bunch of codecs listed in the sound and game controllers thingo.
i look in sounds and audio devices and there nothing there, all grayed out.
my sound card is a c-media 9880, ON board card.
can somebody assist me please, i have a very very important BF2 ladder match rather soon and i need to be on ventrilo as I'm orchestrating the whole thing!!!

Need the make or model or the motherboard, if not sure Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates. http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Check this out to see if SigmaTel is default audio
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device

install the Chipset driver, then RESTART your comp
