Thanks Barbara, when I tried to run the download computer shut down and rebooted and reported it has encountered a serious error. Not sure what that means. What should I do? Thank you.

Hi Barbara. I tried to download the Soundmax Driver at it gave me the following error: Windows cannot find C:\Drivers\Audio\DownloadedDriver_01-07-2005\setup.exe. Am I doing something wrong? I tried it a couple of times.

Barbara, I don't know if this helps but I ran msinfo32 and it shows a conflict as follows:

IRQ 3 Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM SMBus Controller - 24C3
IRQ 3 SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio

I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 PCI bus
I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 Direct memory access controller

IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller
IRQ 16 Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2

IRQ 18 Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C7
IRQ 18 SoftV92 Data Fax Modem with SmartCP

Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI bus
Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller

Could that be the problem?

Soundmax can be a pain, go back install the System-INF then restart your comp
Then install soundmax this way, using the If No Setup File method. Check the path to where the file is stored

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

hp sound

Hi I've loaded xp onto my hp dv2530ea instead of vista, and most things are working appart from the sound. I can hear sound both system sounds and audio/video sounds and the internal mic can pic up sounds. But it wont record streaming sounds (though I can hear them out the speakers). There's no stereo option in audacity recorder either. Everest is showing I'm using a conexant cx20549 @Intel 82801 HBM ICH8M - High Definition Audio Controller PCI.

This is from Belarc Advisor. Hope someone can help.

Hi Barbara, when I tried the No Set Up method it told me Files Neded ALCXWDM.sys on Realtek AC97 Driver Disk needed. Would it be easier to just go purchase a new sound card like Sound Blaster 7.1 for $30. Seems like it might be a small price to pay to end this frustration. Your thoughts?

This is the Conexant for High Definition audio from HP
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...tem=ob-45570-1

check Device Manager / expand Systems / is the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture showing, if not then install this from HP, it's needed so the HD audio works in XP http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=228&lang=e n
install then install audio driver

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Go here to Intel, No:6 Intel chipset - install then Restart your comp then install audio again. Intel shows as Realtek audio but since a soundmax shown at Emachines, they may have used another audio.
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...4&submit=Go%21

check this out

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

suggestions?

This audio driver from Gateway is know to not install,it's the Vista version, this guy posted a solution that works , look at this

I searched for who knows what and i came across this website, notebookreview.com . Where i was leaded to this topic , which the author sounded exactly like me.
For people having the same audio problem (Conexant Ac-Link Audio Drivers, Realtek) here is the fix.
“1. Install Realtek Audio driver (WDM_A380 or WDM_A381, doesn’t matter).
2. Reboot
3. Download and try to install the Conexant AC 97 audio driver. You can get the one from Gateway (D00245-001-001 driver), or any other manufacturer that uses this chip in the notebook. Pay attention to where it stores the files. For instance the Gateway driver uncompresses to c:\cabs\directory name.
4. Go to device manager, find the Realtek AC 97 audio item under “Sound, video, and game controllers”. Right click on it and select UPDATE DRIVER
5. Select NO if it asks to connect to Windows Update, click NEXT
6. Select “Install from a list of specific location” and click NEXT
7. Select “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install” and click NEXT
8. DE-select “Show compatible Hardware”. CONEXANT should show up under manufacturer since you tried to install the driver earlier.
9. Click on CONEXANT on the left, then select “Conexant AC-Link Audio” on the right and click NEXTThe driver will install. It may ask you for the location of some files, point it to the directory the Conexant driver uncompressed to in step 3.
Reboot, and you should have working audio!”

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

The make and model and any serial numbers, or Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.
