Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

The PCChips P23G motherboard has Realtek AC'97 audio, go here to Realtek
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

download the (Excution file) save to desktop, double click to install

The site is slow

Hope this helps

Although under the Sound Drivers tab, it says the SigmaTel drivers are working properly, when I go to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices, everything is gray and says there is no audio device, so then I go to the Hardware tab and open my SigmaTel Driver Properties, and it has a mixer device installed, but when I double click that, it says "Status: Driver is enabled but is not functioning properly" and there are two radio buttons with no words next to them and a "Settings..." button which, when clicked, gives me a box saying that my driver file is missing and to try installing my driver again, and if that doesn't work to contact my system administrator, but I'm the system administrator... *sigh* I just keep going in circles and simply cannot figure this thing out. Should I download a driver from the Sony site from a different country and see if that works? Maybe my computer was made for Europe or something and got sold in the US? Any more help you could send my way would be amazing! Thanks again for your support!

Just been on Sony site looking for the chipset driver , and found this, have a look it appears you have to install this driver if you do a Clean Install, now I have no knowledge of this, also the Notebook Utillities could be needed. A word with Sony may help, but they are not calling it the Chipset driver ( perishers) I'll ask around see if someone does know.

Cheers

Barbara,

The Windows Audio service was running and set to automatic already. This problem is making me so angry I feel sick. Anything else you can do to help before I toss my laptop out the window would be great. I'm a musician and I can't live with a computer without sound. Thanks a lot for the suggestions and any future help!!

Barbara,

I'm quite sure I installed the Sony Notebook Utilities already, but I don't recall seeing anything about a chipset driver. I'm gonna poke my nose around the Sony site to see what I can find too. Hope to hear from you about this.

Yes, but the Sony Shared Library should have been installed before the Notebook Utilities, one thought, with the download taxi it is possible to download drivers en mass so to speak, if you download and save to CD, you could use Device Manager to install problem devices. Also if you have a recovery CD or driver CD try useing Device manager to install.

This is how, you put the CD in drive, then close it, go to Device Manager / right click problem device / select Install / say No to going online at M$ / yes to disk / and Device manager should find the driver on the disc in CD drive and install

Cheers

I'm Fixed!!!

Barbara,

I ended up trying to repair XP from the CD boot installation. Then after that was complete I would get bluescreen flashed at me and restart when Windows tried to start. I did boot from cd, format, clean install, and first thing I did when I got Windows up was go to that Sony website. They have a guide to help through a clean install, and an ordered list of drivers by which to install first. So, I downloaded them all, restarted after half of them, and after I rebooted after installing the SigmaTel driver, I heard the Windows sound. I've never been so happy in my life to hear that sound. Now its just to customizing Windows back to the way I like it, and off to do the week worth of work I haven't been able to do. I think my problem was just that I didn't install my drivers in the right order. Thanks a lot for your support, I appreciate it big time!!!

hello All, much like everyone else I'm having some problems with my sound card. I recently reformatted my primary HD and lost my drivers. I was able to get a realtek AC 97 driver bundle for my PCI audio card, but when I tried to install the driver, it needed to restart as part of the process at which point, Windows recognized the card after the reinstallation but insisted that the driver needed to be installed and would immediately restart without prompting upon completing installation of the driver and then repeat that same procedure after every restart.

Edit: I got the drivers I tried to install from http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Ok, your board Asus A7V8X-X uses Soundmax onboard audio not Realtek.

Set a system Restore Point before installing just in case

Then go here to Asus http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

you will find the soundmax driver here under audio

Hope this helps

The thing is my onboard sound controller in the motherboard went bust a few years back, so i had gotten a PCI sound card to replace it. the Card was a VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller PCI, according to my AIDA32 report, but when I tried the realtek AC 97 driver bundle, it gave me the problems I mentioned before. So what should I do?

Edit: I also tried the Soundmax driver from the link you gave me, just in case, but it doesn't work. When it installs it would cancel installation midway and flash a message "Error: Driver Not found" or some such.

Via AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller PCI, indicates Via onboard sound, look here at Via http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...SubCatID =104

a Via AC'97 PCI audio is offered a DriverGuide http://members.driverguide.com/drive...riverid=124690

now this is a Diamond Flower Inc ( DFI ) sound card

Set a System restore Point before installing just inn case

Hope this helps

I have installed XP Pro SP2 on it and everything works fine...except the on-board soundcard.

I have read a ton of posts in this forum regarding problems with AC97 soundcards, and I have tried a lot of different drivers - Realtek, C-Media, nothing seems to work. I've done google searches, basically I can't figure out what to do next - I'm sure its not a hardware problem. It's enabled in the BIOS (and its definately an AC97 as it says so in the bios), volume controls are all up to full, I'm sure its just a matter of finding the right driver.

i need your help ,i wanna my sound back ?

That board has Via AC'97 audio, go here to MSI http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=586&kind=1

get the Via AC'97 PCI audio driver

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Hope this helps
