install this way, using the If No Setup File method

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a
Restore point and follow instructions

Make 2 folders where you can find them I audio driver 2 audio driver unzipped, when you download the driver and it asks where to save, browse to folder 1. When you double click the file in the folder 1, again choose where to save and browse to folder 2. Now this is the folder to direct XP to when you right click the yellow flagged Multimedia and select Update by using the method If No Setup File method

I think I have the process figured out but I installed a wrong sound driver when I want to update Multimedia Audio Controller it tries to install realtek AC 97. How would I get rid of that so I just have a yellow question mark and there is no sound driver there and its just a clean slate. I can't rollback the driver because there was no previous driver and I tried Add Or Remove Programs also.

Never mind about my previous post. I figured that out. Ok, so what your saying is to make One Folder Named Audio Driver 1 which has just soundmax5240.exe in it? Then another folder Named Audio Driver 2 with soundmax5240.exe unzipped. If so, I did that then when I click Install from a list or specified location, then I go down to include this location in this search, and I go to the Audio Driver 2 folder, and when I do this it only lets me click Ok on the sub folders such as "se", and "w2k_xp" My question is am I doing this process correctly and if not what am I doing wrong?
