Hi bookworm. Well, I somehow managed to fix it after a few attempts.

It turned out to be some failure with my "Plug and Play software emulator". I read on another thread at a different site that, in order to reinstall it after removed or uninstalled, I needed to get the SWENUM.sys and the SWENUM.inf file. I found the .inf file on the internet and I got the sys-file from a friend. Afterwards I just went in to the control panel - add/remove hardware and I manually added the device by using "Have disc"-button. The sound started working immediatly, without having to reboot my comp.

Thanks for your help anyways! Well appreciated!

/chris

Your answer: both the drivers are high definition check Device Manager / System Devices / Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture - is it installed if not install from here, it need to be installed before the audio driver, did you try both drivers ?

Yeah, i download the driver that is from Dell website and then the one you gave me. So I had installed the Dell driver before the other one that you advised me to install first...

Now I installed again my Windows because the old one appeared to slow down my PC. Shall I try the one you gave me before the Dell's one? I don't know what the Compaq driver (in the link you gave me) could do to help me?

Hi Bookworm, I tried this but it does not work. I still have the same yellow exclamation mark on my multimedia audio controller.

check this to see if Realtek is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

your audio driver is here at ECS http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Dow...uID=82&LanID=0

but I suspect SP3 is the cause

Your audio sockets must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work. If they are in an expansion slot, then you have a sound card installed

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a
Restore point and follow instructions
