it's a dummy board name, what make and model of comp do you have, if not sure get Belarc, copy and paste the report but leave out the software license and win update section

Dell have the XP drivers for your Inspiron 531S here
http://support.euro.dell.com/support...g=en&TabIndex=

but you need to know which Video and Network you have on the machine
Everest will list this information, you can post a copy of the report and i will check
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

2 audio drivers offered
I/O plate - Realtek
Expansion slot - Sound Blaster

example I/O plate http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

the main driver you ned to install first is the Chipset driver - install and Restart your comp before installing any other driver

Set a System Restore Point before installing EACH driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

check these out

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot

nope ... tried tht.. everythng is fine... i thnk thr is some prb with driver... i d/w latest driver frm realtek and installed it.. sound started coming bt it was broken.. i uninstalled it and installed the one tht i got with the motherboard.. sound plays for 2 seconds and stops... i installed the one u gave... the one from the mercury website... tht is not working only.. no sound atall.. i first uninstall all the drivers restart thn install new one.. so thr is no overlap prob... and one thng i noticed.. whn i unistall the drivers i am askd to restart... once the windows start again the sound driver gets installed automatically... under device manager it shows 'Intel 82801BA ICH2X - AC'97 Audio ' .... has it got nethng to do with ths intel driver?

go back to Kobian and install the chipset driver - then RESTART your comp - then install audio driver again

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions
