Any help will be greatly appreciated, and put you straight to the top of my christmas card list!!! Thanx in advance, Ross

Is this an Acer comp, if so do yu know the make and model, looks like you have a Crystal audio card, check this out

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic.

Hope this helps

Unhappy

Hey I just added a new HDD to my computer and installed XP Home on it. It's currently the drive i'm running windows on. I can't get audio to work though, I have a JETWAY Motherboard model: P4MBMS.

I've tried installing the AC'97 whatever drivers off the CD that came w/ the mobo but sound still doesn't work. I tried installing almost every drivers w/ this thread w/ no luck.

Right now under my sound in device manager it says [for audio],

-Audio Codecs
-Legacy Audio Drivers
-Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)

all working "properly".

I've tried a million different combination of things but nothing works.

Hope you can help,
Jtardiou

EDIT: my specs:

P4 LGA775 2.8gh w/ P4MBMS mobo
9800 pro
512mb pc3200
maxtor 160gb HDD
service pack 1

Ok I found the thread but I don't see how this would help my problem. I have the drivers installed fine.

donald92duck had his drivers installed ok but still no sound, this method worked for him. There are a few things to check, is sound enabled in the BIOS and look at these

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

look at this answer from post lower down
I had the same issue; no sound; but drivers were there; everything looked fine. This stumped me for about a week. Okay; so this is how I fixed it. Go to "Start"-\"control Panal"-\"Administrative Tools"-\"Component Services". This will pull up a seperate window, on the left click "services (local)" from the tree. Go down to the "windows audio" service. If the service is on "disabled" or "manual"; right click and select "properties" under "startup type" change to "automatic"- click apply. click "start". Reboot!!

Hope this helps
