Drivers here at Asus http://support.asus.com/download.asp...My2X8lKstYRvev
select your OS XP

audio is Soundmax and specs show it as High Definition audio

HD audio needs the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture to be installed first for it to work
Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager
System Devices / Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture should be installed
If not get here, from HP but supplied by Microsoft
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=228&lang=e n

now Soundmax can be picky to install you may need to do a force install
use the If No Setup File method

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

Set a System Restore Point before installing any drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

I have been having trouble posting to the forum but, when I tried once more to search, I found your reply from my last reformat so I no longer need to.
This time I'm burning everything to a new disc so I won't have to trouble you again. My apologies for being a p.i.t.a. over nothing and thanks again.
