Go back to the Asus site and download the Manual, it's all in there, I find it easier to work backwards from the AC'97 audio. They are usually on the Advanced tab under Integrated Peripherals. One point there is usally an F key it's F5 in most cases to reset System defaults in case of problem just read carefully
Hope this helps

Iv'e also had a look and as you say, nothing to link to onboard sound, I'm off to the Asus forum to see what they know. Iv'e an idea but need to check
This is not an answer, but it appears to be a problem with the motherboard, have a look at this on the Asus Forum

It seems it's a memory problem, I see you have 2GB of memory, this is probulary 2 sticks of 1GB, the solution that the guys have found is to run with only 1 stick of memory in the comp. perhaps removing one of the memory sticks could solve the problem in the short term.If your comp is a commercial built by one of the PC Companies an email pointing out that there is a defect with this motherboard could be an option.
Hope this helps

I'm very greatfull for your Great Help and assistance , you really give me some hope and an answer to my problem , even make a search , Barbara thank you very much.

The problem continues
Barbara,
First of all thanks for the effort you put in helping me.
I downloaded the driver you gave me a link to, but in order to install this driver, I first have to install microsoft service pack 2. Normally this shouldn't give any problems, however the windows xp I installed was an illegal copy (I'm a gangster I know ) so service pack 2 won't install. Anyone knows how to solve this?
Thanks
