The one thing i did - yesterday - when all worked fine - was delete from my computer the 685mb folder that contained everything in Games Room. Was there something in there that now restricts my email sound - it did warn me that some applications might not work if i deleted this folder. but i never play games so i went ahead and did it. As i say - every sound i need - warning sounds -alerts - winks in messenger - all function. Just nothing in my email sound. Help please !!

Have you checked the Recycle Bin to see if the deleted files are still there and can be restored.

Cheers

thx again for your responce, however under 'sound and audio devices',under sound playback is completely grayed out and i cannot do anything there. I cant use any drop down menus and the 'volume' and 'advanced' buttons under them are all grayed out as well. In the drop down box of each it says the following.

Under sound playback -> No playback devices
Under sound recording -> No recording devices
Under MIDI music playback -> No MIDI playback devices

Hi there.

I just stumbled across this site.
I too reformatted my computer about 4 months ago and since then I haven't had any sound.
I'm a complete computer novice so you might have to tell me what to do exactly.

But what I have gathered, I downloaded the Belarc Advisor and this is what it is telling me:

Controllers

Primary IDE Channel [Controller]
Secondary IDE Channel [Controller]

Hopefully that is the information you need. If there is anymore info that you need let me know.
If anyone can help me in any way I will be forever grateful! No sound is driving me insane!

Thanks

This is the link to the MSI board http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=317&kind=1

USB 2 drivers should be got from Win Update or the latest service pack. USB should be enabled by the Chipset driver, which you have already installed, have a word with these guys they may know more than I do http://72.29.80.128/Forum/ Take the link to the motherboard and post inthe thread.

Thanks for the response,

My computer would be TM290 with Intel Graphic chip and Intel Pentium M

I installed the Chipset: IntelBanisChipset Driver Version 4.30.1006 and restarted

Then tried to install Realtek Semiconductor Corp. AC'97 Driver Version 5.10.0.5210 But encountered an error halfway through.

Heres a screenshot of the error encountered, I get the same error from a previous driver i had But dont remember it happening before.

Sound and USB still do not work.

Check this out
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device. See if realtek is an option

and this
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.

Hope this helps
