Multimedia Audio controller

Please help! I have a Dell Optiplex GX270, running Windows XP Pro (SP2). I cannot get any external sound and in Device Manager there is the dreaded yellow ? against Multimedia Audio controllers. I've tried to find drivers but without any success at all. Can anyone help this poor demented soul... What drivers do I need to download and where do I find them. Dell and Microsoft haven't been of any help.

This is the Dell Support for your model, you will need to install the chipset driver first and then restart your comp. There are 3 Audio drivers listed but without more information I am unable to say which one you need.

Set a System restore Point before installation of each driver just in case
