First get these programes ( All free )
Antivirus - AVG7 http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
Spyware - Ad-Aware SE http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
SpyBot Searh&Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Update immediatley > run > clean everything they find
Then check these
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply > click Start > Reboot.
Hope this helps

Blue Screen Of Death
Hi folks, I have read thru this thread and have tried the specific drivers listed on the Asus web page, but get the BSOD when I try to install ANY driver for the Realtek AC97 Driver. My machine automatically disables it in the hardware list, and when I try to enable it, BSOD. Try to update the driver, BSOD. Below is the specs from Belarc Advisor, if you need more info, let me know. I cant figure this one out. Any Ideas? Thanks for the help, I appreciate what you guys do here, Reading thru these threads have helped me a ton in the past.

Wth?
I tried downloading the driver and installing. Still no action upon executing the install file. Updated the bios, still no avail. BSOD every time. Even to enable the AC97 will cause it instantly. Do I just need to get a sound card and plug it in the pci slot?

Try installing this way through Device Manager, use the IF No Setup File method
Installing Drivers
Create a folder for what you are downloading
Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder
Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here
That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)
Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation
IF NO SETUP FILE
Go to Device Manager, then right click on what is displayed under that (could be unknown PCI device, Soundmax, Realtek etc)
Then click Driver
Then click Driver update
Then it will ask if you want to check Internet for updates – click No
Then click Install from a different location
Then push the Browse button
Direct it to the folder you unzipped the files to
Then click Ok
Hope this helps

Hello! Thanks for the help and quick response!
I tried that method too, with several different drivr types and versions. Still no luck. Besides taking a colt .45 to it, I think I am out the 15 bucks to get a new sound card. Thanks again for all your help!
