Angry USB 2.0 performing at 1.1

Hi,

This is starting to bug me!

I purchased an ECS 755 A2 (1.0) Motherboard and built my own computer this past summer. Up until now I never needed the speed of USB 2.0. I recently purchased a digital camera card reader and have begun shooting RAW photos. 50 or 60 Raw images takes a long time on 1.1 . Anyway, my computer gives me an error that

"This device can perform faster, plug it into a HI Speed port."

I've tried all the ports I have including the case ports, to no avail. Further investigation led me to find that my Host Controllers are out of date. I went to ECS's website and the drivers they have are only for Win2k, not XP Pro as I need. I tried to install the drivers anyway and windows wouldn't let me, it said the latest drivers were installed on SP1, which I'm running SP2.

Does anyone know where I can find an update? Windows Update was of no help and ECS hasn't as of yet returned my E-mail.

Thanks,
Matt

My question to you would be:

Why would anyone choose an ECS motherboard when building their own machine? Saving a few bucks on the most important piece of hardware is not the way to go.

I don't know what you are going to do about drivers. Didn't you receive a cd with motherboard drivers with the motherboard?

Check to see what version your bios is. You may need to flash the board to get usb2.

The ECS wasn't my first choice, but for what I need it works fine.

Anyway.

When I updated to SP2 Windows wrote over the original drivers, and like I said Windows wouldn't let me install the Win 2k drivers. It apparently feels it is superior to anything else.

As far as the BIOS, I flashed it with the most current version before OS install.

Hopefully someone with that motherboard will see your post and offer you a remedy.
Usb2 is very nice and I would be upset not having it myself.

I figured out what was going on. Windows has two sets of drivers available. The drivers it was using were "Digitally signed" but there was another set available that wasn't. Windows urged me not to, but I installed the other set and now things are moving much faster and without any problems. If anyone has this same problem, install the OpenHCD Host Controller and things should work out. The SiS 7001 drivers limit the speed to assure compatibility.
