Unhappy Multimedia Video Controller

Hello everyone!!!

I'm new here and thought I'd take a chance to see if you all can help me before I go crazy over here!!!!! My problem or problems consist of these.

1)In my device manager under "Other Devices" I have a question mark, under this title it says "Multimedia Video Controller" and has a question mark exclamation point on it also. I can not update the driver or install a driver using the wizard...it says it can not find the software. I have searched high and low for a resolution to clear up this matter. I'm not sure what the "Multimedia Video Controller" is for, my monitor works great, I have a ATI Radeon x600 video card.. so Im not sure what the deal is...

If anyone can help me god bless you you're a saint....because after over 15hrs on the phone for the past 3 days HP tech support has no idea if they are coming or going.

Thanks and I'll be checking to see if anyone has any ideas..

On your taskbar at the right have you checked your ATI graphics, right click , do you have CATALYST - Control Center shown, if you do open and your video settings, for more information go her to ATI and register http://www.ati.com/ look under customer care.I have the X800GT and your card is very similar.

Hope this helps

Hey old timer,

I checked out the image you have of the device manager...my device manager looks similar the only question mark I have in my device manager is on "Other Devices" which "multimedia video controller" is listed and also has a question mark...here is a link to my system and the factory specs

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...name=c00511148

That shoud give you an idea of what my system has, all I use is the graphics card, sound card, usb ports..It has a tv tuner card to watch and record tv but i dont use this as of yet..but plan on once I get this problem fixed. Could it be this is the hardware that is trying to find it's driver???? if so there is no info on the type of card it is and what the driver is...if you need I can take a snapshot of my device manager so you can see what it looks like...thanks for your reply and to you and barbara thank you so much for you help... I really do appreciate it..

Hi again,

Well I tried contacting HP again with no sucess and no resolution of both my problems

1. PC wont boot up and freezes on the startup screen (HP Invent Logo)
2. Device manager has an issue with "Other Devices/Multimedia vidoe Controller" can not find driver for the hardware (They dont know and I dont know what hardware windowsXP is trying to install other than it's a multimedia video controller.

So final step is HP is sending me a box that fedex will drop off and I'll package up the PC and ship it out and have to pay 50.00 to ship it overnight and hopefully have it back in 2 days or I'm gonna raise hell and get my 50.00 back as they said it wiould only take 2 days to get it back to my home... anyhow, I will post the final resolutoin on here and I thank you for all your help...if in the mean time anyone comes across a resolution or suggestion let me know...

Thanks,

Mario

Just had a look at ATI site, one thing, you need M$ Net Framework version 1.1.4322.2032 installed for your Graphics card to work. Go to M$ Updates and check if this update is offered, I remeber when I installed this card I updated Net framework and when I checked updates again immediatley after installing there was an update to the update. When you get to M$ update choose custom and see what is offered, I set a System Restore Point before I install any updates and install one at a time, then check the system for any problems, just in case.Even with a brand new system, they can be out of date with updates.

Hope this helps

Unhappy Have you figured it out at all?

Hey there,
I am having the same problem although I have a nVidia 7600 GT. Its telling me I need to install a "multimedia video controller" and it is not able to install anything. This problem is driving me mad! I have a pentium D 3.2ghz duel running on XP SP2. If you could let me know if you have fixed yours or if you know what it is, that would be great!

I am having a similar problem on my Dimension 9200 with GeForce 7900 GS, my video card drivers are fully updated but I still need a driver for a 'multimedia video controller'. I have visited Dell's website but to no avail. Please help!

Thumbs up multimedia controller

hi houdini,
i have looked at this and i am convinced that the solution to this is to go to the graphics manufacturers website and download the drivers for the tv tuneras your card says that it has a tuner, this should then resolve the problem

regards

I just had this problem and fixed mine.

I'd just finished building an HP workstation that could not find a driver for multimedia video controller with Device ID ven_104C&dev_8024.

I've probably imaged 100 of this model and this is the first time it's happened. The video card is an nVidia PCI card.

I popped out all the PCI cards, re-inserted them, and now it works fine. We've had odd problems with PCI cards not seating exactly right, but this is the first time I've had this particular error.

And . . . I really have to agree with Barbara. ALWAYS set a System Restore Point before installing ANYTHING. Reboot (you may have picked up some other oddity during the past few days/weeks), and THEN install your new stuff. Then test for a few days to see if you have trouble. Going back to an earlier Restore Point should put you right back where you were.

An occasional backup of your entire hard drive (create an image using Ghost, Acronis or similar) to a second drive is always a good idea. Test those, occasionally, too, to be certain your backups are any good.

If you've never lost your data and apps, well, trust me, you don't want to. Gone is gone.
