PCI Card Driver

I recently had a lot of trouble installing a webcam and ended up reinstalling Win 98. I now have no sound though and the device manager can't find a driver for the PCI card. I have seen from other posts here to run Belarc which I have done and posted the results below. I am desperately hoping someone can now tell me where I can find the necessary driver.

MANY thanks in advance!

This is the driver for onboard sound, have you installed a PCI Sound Card, if so the driver should be on a CD that came with the Sound Card.

Your board is a Micro-Star Inc MS-6178, go here to get your ADI 188x Sound Driver http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=116&kind=1

Hope this helps

Many thanks.

I have not installed a sound card and made no changes at all so don’t know why the driver is suddenly missing.

On the link you provided I assume I just download the ADI 188x Sound Drivers file? Do I download this to a drivers file and then try the add hardware option again and point it in that direction or is this a program?

Sorry – idiots guide needed!!!

Much appreciated

No, this is an exe file,( self extracting ) just download and save where you will rember it, I have a folder in My Documents named Downloads everything I download goes there, or you could put it on the Desktop it's up to you. To install just double click the file it will install itself.

hope this helps

Arrrrgggghhh!!

I still can't get it to work! OK, I downloaded the file. I mananged to get it to run which created a Wdm folder on the desktop. Within that folder I have found two setup icons and run them both - one was SoundMax setup and the other was WDM driver setup.

Yet still I have no sound and when I 'search for new hardware' it still shows a missing driver for the PCI card. I try to install it but it can't find it.

What am I doign wrong? Please help!

If you are running an antivirus programe, can you turn it off, then try to install the missing driver for the PCI card.

Hope this helps
