Intermittent Sound on Sony Vaio

Since updating my PCG-FXA48 to XP SP2 I have intermittent sound. I have all the latest updates from Sony and MS. Sony support seems to have wiped its hands and directs me to MS FAQ's about no sound.
I have taken a Belarc scan of my system and would ask if anyone could advise. I suspect it is a driver issue for my audio but have been unable to find any update - however, that may not be all. I throw this out to more knowledgable people.

Iv'e had a look at Sony site, one there are no specifications available to view and also no Chipset drivers. I would get back to Sony and ask about specifications and why no chipset driver available. Also get Everest ( Free )
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml
and see if it gives you more information.Take a look at this, it's not to download any drivers but only information when speaking to Sony http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/viaac97.html

Hope this helps
