video controller and multimedia audio controller

Hi, I have just completed a clean install of xp pro on a machine that looks like it was home built.

I noticed in device manager there is a ? next to "other devices" which lists Multimedia Audio controller and Video controller. I am guessing these refer to the sound and video card.

I have opened the box up and can not locate these cards.

I need drivers right? How can i tell who the manufacturer is and what cards i have?
I ran the Belarc Advisor and got the following. Not sure what it tells me. can anyone help?

thanks

Drives:
40.01 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
35.77 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8525B [CD-ROM drive]

WDC WD400BB-00HEA0 [Hard drive] (40.02 GB) -- drive 0, s/n WD-WMAJ61576932, rev 13.03G13, SMART Status: Healthy

Processor
1.67 gigahertz AMD Athlon XP
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache

System Model:
Enclosure Type: Desktop

Main Circuit Board
Bus Clock: 166 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 07/07/2004
Controllers
Standard floppy disk controller
Primary IDE Channel [Controller]
Secondary IDE Channel [Controller]
VIA Bus Master IDE Controller

Need any other information?

This is a link to ECS KM400 M2, http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/km400-m2.html but go to Device manager and check whether any yellow ! or red x shown, this will give idea of what the problem is. Check the board again to see if ECS is shown.Don't download BIOS update untill we know what is needed.

Right ckick MY Computer / Properties / Hardware Tab / Device manager

You can check if a sound card is installed by running this little programe, it will list all devices on your system, that way when you go to Dell you will know which driver you need.http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...entifier.shtml

This is the link to Dell http://support.dell.com/support/down...&os=WW1&osl=EN
the original installation for your service tag listed the Santacruz audio card.

Hope this helps

I have an HP Pavilion 9680C with a new hardrive and windows 2000 installed but the Riptide Audio COntroller software keeps giving me the message Microsoft Bus Driver nmust be installed before installing this software. This PC has an ASUS P2B-VT motherboard but all I can find is drivers for the P2B-VM motherboard and those don't solve the problem which seems to be caused by the little yellow exclamation pint in front of the windows Multimedia controller in windows system devices window. Please help as this is driving me a little bit gaga

Question

I am trying to figure out what driver I need to install to enable the windows multimedia controller that is showing an exclamation piint in the device manager screen.HP doesn't have the Windows 2000 mobo drivers that I have been able to find for this PC. I was told that I needed to install the mobo drivers in order to get the windows multimedia controller to function. Is this wrong?

been to HP it is confusing, your audio is a Riptide Audio?Conexant Modem Combo card, this then leads to the Chameleon Audio/Communications card.

HP offer the Chameleon driver for Win 2000, see the links below it will explain it more fully.

These are your specifications http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...cname=bph05321

This is the Chamelon modem driver

Hope this helps

Still the wrong driver

Well that wasn't the answer. I tried reinstalling the driver from that package but it said that it couldn't find the multimedia controller driver in the location I installed the driver software at. Am I doing something wrong here? Thanks.

Still more confusing, this may make it clearer, it appears it's a common problem, http://www.allensmith.net/HP/Riptide.htm

this guy seems to have the answer, the driver at HP is an update to an already Installed driver. Scroll down to
DriversGuide.com riptide-chameleon-W982K.exe this is the full version taken from a HP recovery disk. You will need to register with DriversGuide ( it's a safe site)
Look at the notes on how to install.

hope this helps
