Still not the answer
I have already installed the modem drivers but they didn't solve the missing Multimedia controller in Device Manager. Am I doing something wrong here? I think I am looking for the chipset drivers for my motherboard which is the ASUS P2B-VT. I may be wrong on this but everything else I have tried hasn't solved my problem. ANy suggestions are greatly appreciated.

This is a combination card, used only by HP, the audio and modem drivers are on the card. This is what you do, go here Register with DriverGuide
http://www.driverguide.com/ then log on and follow this path.
Manufactorers tab / No:1 in list HP / under Search Company Drivers type Pavilion 9680C / Search / Simple Search tab / filter Sound Card / OS Win 2000/ Search/ there is your driver riptide.zip / Download / Read the comments, seems it's a diffcult job to install, the audio and modem are in this download.
Hope this helps

Still didn't solve the problem
I had already tried that but I tried it again and followed your directions precisely. The driver installed but my multimedia controller is still shoing up with a large question mark in front of it. Any other ideas?

Well as you say, tried everything but the chipset, ( God I hate HP, useless,) traced the chipset as an Appollo Pro 133, ASUS don't offer support as this is an OEM for HP but you can get it here from VIA, use the older 4 in 1 download, Via state it is more stable in older systems. and as you can see it is for the Appollo Pro series, http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...D=3&CatID=1230
try to back up any important date, and read how to install.
Hope this helps

In the Same Boat.
I am unfortunately in the same boat. My hard drive died, so after installing XP I find myself without any drivers. I have been able to find one for my touch pad. I just do not know which drivers I need to install.
I believe I need a video driver because scrolling through the internet and lists in general are sluggish. The Device manager indicates a "!" next to the video controller - something must be up.

Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
I've been looking through your forum for the past 30 minutes and it seems that a lot of people have this same problem. In order to save you time, I had hoped to figure it out on my own but have not been successful so I have no choice but to post this problem yet again:
I got a computer from work and decided to format it. I installed Windows XP with service pack 2. I tried playing a video on the internet and could see the video, but could not hear it. As others have, I found yellow ?'s and !'s under "Other devices" specifically: "Ethernet Controller", "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)", and something to the effect of "Multimedia Audio Controller."
I re-installed windows and it got rid of the above third option (Audio) altogether and now my sound works fine. However, the other two (Ethernet Controller and Video Controller (VGA Compatible)) still have the yollow ?'s and !'s. I installed and tried playing a video game. I could hear but not see the intro video. When the menu popped up I couldn't see any buttons, just the background image.
I followed the advice given in some of your other threads and downloaded everest. Here is the System information for my computer:
Computer:
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Professional

This is the link to the Gigabyte drivers http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=1670
VGA and Lan are there
you must plug your monitor into the I/O plate for this VGA driver to work see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQzgQ39ovZY
Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Thank you so much Barbara!! This has been racking my brain for a long time but thanks to you my device manager is showing everything that i am supposed to have and i do not see any yellow exclamation points at all!! Thank you sooooo much!! Sincerely, KC Note: it really matters who u know!!!

Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section.
