Unhappy Drivers and Sound Gone On My Computer

I attempted to update Nero on my DVD drives and something happened. My computer fails to recognize either of my three optical drives. They are shown in Device Manager with the numbers. It says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39). It also says the volume info this disk cannot be found. All three drives light up and the drawers open and close. I tried downloading drivers but cannot get the computer to locate them. I also unplugged the DVD's inside the computer (ribbon and power connections) and plugged them back in thinking the computer might recognize new hardware and let me use my software disks to install them. This did not work. I also do not have any sound on the computer. Everything was working perfectly prior to trying to upgrade Nero.

I tried System Restore (Windows XP Pro) to go back to a time prior to attempting to install Nero but it says the system will not restore, no changes made. I tried several dates and times. System restore is turned on.

Please help. Thanks.
