Sigmatel Audio driver no sound in Vista - Help
I have a Sony Vaio with a Sigmatel driver when running under XP. In Vista, build 5456 it installs the MS High Definition Audio Device. When this is installed I can just barely hear any sound out of the speakers. Checked and all settings are at 100%. If I try to install the old Sigmatel driver from XP then I have normal sound, but when trying to open Control Panel it always does not display any icons and locks up. The only recourse is to restart Explorer.

Update the chipset, here at Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri... &submit=Go%21
it's No:2 in the list. After installation RESTART your comp.
Sony offer an update to Sigmatel dated June 2006 http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-li...teType=Updates
but does not list Vista in OS
Hope this helps

Sigmatel HD Audio on Sony VAIO running Vista...
Hello,
I have the same problem on the same computer, but when I try to install the Intel download, a message pops up alerting me that my computer does not meet the requirements for the install. Could it be because this model of PC comes with an ATI (third party) video card? The Intel download site does say that the download is only for systems without third party video cards.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

This is getting some media attention
This is getting some media attention, at least:
http://digg.com/hardware/Sigmatel_au..._Vista_drivers
Dell has now got some drivers for Sigmatel but it seems to be up to each OEM to make their own...

Answer:
I have a sony vaio pcg grt260g...shouldnt matter thought this should work for all the vaios. I extracted the setup for the sigmatel driver using winRAR..(right click on it click extract). After that you see a bunch of new files one of which should be a .exe .. right click on this (new) setup that you have extracted and set the compatibility to Windows XP in properties.
Double click it..and it install and works!
hope you understand..

Sony Viao Sound problems
After reading several other posts my problem doesn't sound that uncommon, however i still don't know how to fix it. Sony has been NO help at all.
I have a new Sony Viao VGN-FE790 with Sigmatel sound. On the first program that launches a sound, (Itunes, Windows media player, heck even Quicken), the sound is lost when the program closes. The Audio is all grayed out but the sound card is enabled? I have ot reboot to get sound back, but once a propgram boots and closes sound is lost everytime. This thing is killing me. Does anyone have a solutioon> Thanks.

i solved this problem partially by installing the following driver on Windows Vista Ultimate (notebook built-in speakers does not work, only headphone output):
http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R157052.EXE
The audio specification is:
SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio, Driver, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit, Multi Language, Multi System, v.6.10.0.5511, A04

No Audio on my Sony Vaio
Hi, I am also having problems getting my audio hardware to work on my laptop. I own a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ260E. It originally came with Windows Vista Home Edition, and now I am having a lot of trouble finding a driver that will work with my computer. I believe it uses Sigmatel or IDT High Definition Audio Codec, or something like that. When I go into the device manager I choose to update driver and choose up driver automatically, it begins to search and finds the driver, but then I get an error "Cannot Start this Hardware. There was a problem installing this hardware. This device cannot start. (Code 10). I tried uninstalling it also and then searching for new hardware and re-installing it and searching for the drivers automatically again, but nothing still. I get NO sound! I don't understand! Why won't it install? I would be so grateful if anyone could help me and let me know if it is even possible to find a compatible driver. I neeeeeeed audio! Thanks in advance.
