Sorry for jumping into someone else's thread, but I need help with what seems like the same problem. I bought a T-3504 just two days ago, and immediately reformatted the hard drive and replaced XP Home with XP Pro. CDs, mp3s, system sounds played fine in Home, but now XP device manager says no audio devices are installed.

I downloaded the chipset driver referenced in Barbara's post, but it does not appear to have done anything. Does it need to be installed in a particular location to be recognized? I ran it from the desktop.

I even tried the manufacturer's restore cd, which reinstalled XP Home and (I thought) would reinstall all the drivers, etc, but no luck. I have [i]not[i] opened the case or changed the hardware configuaration, so if sound worked originally, isn't there a sound card somewhere?

I am rapidly pulling out what little hair I have left--any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I just had the same problem with an emachines T3504 which I got at Best Buy (open-boxc) for $200 (! It didn't boot the first time so I reinstalled, and had no sound. I took it back and complained, whereupon they found and installed the drivers "WDM_R143.exe" which can indeed be found at the URL above, and sho'nuff I had working sound.

This is my first experience with a PC running Windows, and I must say I am boggled by the incomprehensible stupidity of a manufacturer who would ship a system restore CD without the software required to make the system work. I bought this machine to play Civilization IV, and it does a very good job of that, but other than that I'll stick with computers that Just Work.

Valied point, but this can not be laid at MS's door, this is system manufactorers trying to ensure that you go to them for drivers, and expect you to pay, they all do it, that is why so many people do the best they can to help. Some are much better than others, some are just stinkers.
