(I am reposting this from another thread.)

Hello... I'm having about the same problem as a bunch of other people here.

Here it goes... (thanks in advance)

I have an Abit AN8 32X motherboard with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Dual Core processor. The computer is running Windows XP Home Edition with SP2.

I have a Creative SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 sound card that is working fine, but I am trying to get the motherboard's integrated sound controller working because it has some features I'd like to use. Right now it shows up in the Device Manager as a Multimedia Audio Controller with an exclamation mark next to it. I had to go into the Phoenix - Award BIOS CMOS Setup Utility and set the OnChip Audio Controller under Integrated Peripherals to Auto (as opposed to Disabled) if that means anything to you.

The motherboard's setup disc has a driver for the sound controller (Realtek AC'97) and I have installed it but can't get it working for the Multimedia Audio Controller. When I used the Reinstall Driver in the device's properties, the Hardware Update Wizard was able to locate the Realtek AC'97 Audio driver but when it tries to install the software it abruptly stops and says:

An error occurred during the installation of the device.
Access is denied.

I tried doing the same with drivers I found on both the RealTek and Abit websites (uninstalling the previous versions to prevent conflict) and I got the same results.

This is giving me a headache -__- and any help at all would be greatly appreciated....

Edit: ...and I did disable the anti-virus software. I also tried installing the software with the Creative sound card removed and that had no effect.

Can't find a PCV-W2 it leads me to a PCV-W20 model, here is the link, http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu...eType=Original

the audio driver is SiS 7012 same as audio adapter shown in your report. If you get the serial number from the label on the tower and go to Sony it will link you to your drivers. If you decide to install this driver

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE

Hope this helps

Does Realtek AC'97 appear in Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers. Also look at this
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Properties/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device.

Hope this helps

Realtek AC'97 is nowhere to be seen in Device Manager. The only option under the tabs in Sound and Audio Devices is the SoundBlaster card. I am pretty sure the problem is driver/controller related. I have verified that Realtek AC'97 is indeed installed on the system.

Have you tried just double clicking the Realtek driver, if you downloaded the (Executable file) it is an exe self extracting file and will install itself

Hope this helps
