Exclamation no sound, doesn't recognise plugged in devices

Recently, my pc broke down and having taken it to get serviced they said the motherboard had blew and the hard drive was corrupt. They said the cause might have been a power surge and the night before my pc broke down the power went and came back on in a matter or seconds.
Since getting it serviced though, the hard drive was also replaced and i was told all i had to do was format the new hard drive with a restore to factory settings cd for my pc to work again.
However, when i finished formatting the pc i noticed a few problems.
1. The sound wasn't working and i tried everything in other forums to fix it but nothing has worked.
2. Another problem was my PC din't seem to recognise any hardware i plugged in via my USB port e.g. my ipod, cellphone, printer, scanner etc
... so at the moment all i have is a PC with only a mouse a keyboard and a monitor.
So far i have tried installing some realtek '97 sound drivers but none of them seem to work
my device manager doesnt indicate any conflicts

Under "Sound, video and game controllers?" I found:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs

Under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" I found:
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24D7
Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB Universal Host Controller - 24C2

Motherboard Info
The motherboard in this PC has caused a lot of confusion. The board has MS-6714 stamped on it but it is not the same board as the one listed on MSI's website. The board in the 3316 is made by Trigem and is known as the Eindhoven (MS-6714 VER:2). Information on the Trigem version can be found on the Motherboards.org website.

One major difference between the two boards is the BIOS. Running the BIOS update that is available on MSI's website will pretty much trash the Trigem board, damage varying from the PC running slow and USB sockets not working through to the machine refusing to boot. You can download the correct BIOS update from here - advent3316.zip.

Apologies to anyone who has had problems as a result of following the link that was previously on this page. Also many thanks to James Ward for pointing this out and providing me with the correct info and BIOS file.

Adding RAM is the most cost effective way to boost your computer's performance. The Crucial Memory Advisor Tool takes the guesswork out of upgrading.

i found the spec for my pc on the following site

The MSI MS-6714 is an Intel 845GE with Realtel AC'97 audio, first the chipset driver needs to be updated, then the driver obtained from Realtek.

Go here to Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21
No:4 INF Update Utility install then RESTART your comp. This driver tells the target System which INF files to install including USB function.

Go here to Realtek http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click to install.

Set a System Restore Point before installing each driver just in case

Hope this helps
