problem: sound is perfect with headphones, but not with speakers

Hi,

I sort of wandered in from a Google search and this seems like a great forum. Read through a bunch of past threads, but not sure if those problems are the same as mine.

About 5 months ago the HD failed and my mom replaced it. I know nothing about the new HD or what was done to the computer, just that when I try to play my music the sound quality coming from the speakers is HORRIBLE. The sound actually WORKS, but I can't hear lyrics very well/at all and there seems to be way too much bass. I have considered the possibility that it could be the speakers at fault...however, they were working fine before my old computer died. Sound quality through headphones is perfect, though...

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Device Manger says the following about the speakers:

"System speaker
Device Type: System devices
Manufacturer: (Standard system devices)
Location: on Intel(R) 82801BA LPC Interface Controller - 2440.

No drivers are installed for this device.
If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter."

Here's the Belarc report for my system:

Hi jessie04,

If sound is working but having issue with speaker....I would suggest to try different speaker (even though it used to work)..try another set of speakers and let us know how it worked out for you.

Cheers
