Sound problem after reformatting Windows

Hi, I recently reformatted my computer, a HP Pavilion a1020a. After reformatting, the sound suddenly didn't work. The problem says I didn't have a sound card, but it worked before I reformatted the computer, so I know for sure I have a sound card.

Operating System
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

System Model
HP Pavilion 061 PW575AA-ABG a1020a 0qy0211RE101GOLDF00
System Serial Number: AUW51100C4 AN520

Processor a
2.93 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Main Circuit Board b
Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. Goldfish2 1.xx
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 3.28 01/23/2006

Other Devices:

VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
Microsoft PS/2 Mouse
Unknown Device
USB Mass Storage Device
USB Root Hub (5x)

It has nothing under multimedia.

I've tried downloading from the HP Application and Driver recovery DVD but, the sound driver downloading keeps failing. I've tried downloading from the HP website, updating my BIOs and downloading whatever sound driver it said for the a1020a, but with no avail.

Now I need help, since I'm out of ideas.

Thanks, Wilson

The audio from HP is an update, so if it's not already installed it won't work'

It's Realtek High definition, but update the Chipset .> Intel i915GV

go here to Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21
No:3 INF Update Utility > install then RESTART.

Go here to Realtek http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click to install

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE

Hope this helps

Sorry for the delayed reply.

This computer was at a friends house and I didn't visit until today.
Thanks for the solution. I'll write it down if this happens again.

And again, many thanks

You are a freaking genius, I had the same exact problem and after following your instructions the sound on my computer is back again, thanks a million.

Just one last comment though: you wrote "No:3 INF Update Utility > install then RESTART." it should read "No:2..." instead of "No:3...", they changed the order of the downloads on their website.

Keep up the good work !
