HD Audio XP problem
Hey guys, new to the forums and am extremely frustrated with this problem.
I have a:
HP dv6227cl
1 gig ram
120 gig drive
AMD Dual Core 1.6
It came with Vista Home Premium, but I prepared the drive for tri-boot. I now boot linux, Vista and XP.
My problem is in XP it's like no audio driver's will work. I've googled for hours a day for over a week now and nothing seems to work. In Device manager it shows "Microsoft UAA High Definition Bus Driver". I have installed that I think, and now it says it cannot load it. (Code39) as far as research goes for code39 nothing seems to resolve it. I used PC Wizard 2007 and it says I have an MCP51 High Definition Audio. Which tends to lead to an nvidia 430 driver package and did not find the audio. It also doesn't detect the internal modem which I think might have something to do with it. Wondering I guess if anyone had any experience with this and what they might suggest.

There is only a sound driver for Windows Vista for the Pavilion dv6227cl, on the UK HP support website. No sound driver is available for download for this model if running XP on it. I imagine that's why you can't get a driver to work properly under XP. The 'big name' PC makers often modify the sound and graphics controllers to their own specifications. This means they also need to write matching, modified drivers (which will, of course, have been written to be compatible with their pre-installed version of Windows -- in your case, Windows Vista.
See here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...&lang=en&cc=uk
If you click the link for "Windows XP", no sound driver is shown.
Now go back and click the link for "Windows Vista" - sound driver is listed.

yea I checked all that plus tried various other HP dv model drivers. Still no luck. Also when I install the microsoft uaa bus driver it gives me code 39 and cannot load it for some reason. All microsoft solutions for code 39 doesn't work. It's so weird that my audio works in Vista just fine and linux but not XP... makes me wanna get away from microsoft more and more

"makes me wanna get away from microsoft more and more" --- strange thing to say considering you just shelled out for a PC with Vista on it, and Vista works okay (I assume)? HP didn't guarantee Windows XP would work on it with the existing HP drivers. Neither did Microsoft. Any obligation they have towards you concerns the pre-installed Windows Vista, not XP.
Your sound problem is driver related, a third-party driver not a Microsoft one.
If anything, it's big-brand computers like HP you should be "getting away from" if you want maximum freedom to use device-manufacturer's own drivers and not be tied to those customised ones supplied by the PC maker.
Your only option now is to buy and fit your own sound-card which comes with both XP and Vista drivers. Or ditch XP.

Yea I've tried all the manufacturers driver's buddy. Apparently I'm running off the nforce 430 chipset with a mcp51 HD audio card. I've installed that and before I discovered it was an mcp51 HD chip I tried various other vendor driver's, both of HP site and other vendors. Me personally I like HP products. I'm frustrated yea, but I know it's only a matter of time before I figure it out. My main concern as far as a lap-top in general was linux. How well it would run, etc. Linux seems to run fine and yea I did get a HP with Vista mainly to learn Vista. Also because man it was crazy I went to every major electronic store in 2 different states lookin for a lap-top and dude NOBODY had anything left except for what was on display that's already been touched all over coughed on, etc. because they were getting all new stuff in with Vista. Luckily I finally found a place that had stock of the newer systems and wasn't suppose to sell mine until the 1-30-07, but I got it like a week and a half sooner.

I had the same problem with Windows XP Pro. I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 with the same specs as yours. Here is how I made my MCP51 High Def Audio work on Windows XP:
1. I went to the HP Driver download page for my notebook model.
2. Since the Windows XP driver did not work I downloaded the Win2k Driver. The win2k driver does not work but it will install.
3. Boot
4. Windows XP will tell you that there is a new device found. When it ask you for the recommended action, select: Use Microsoft Update for driver install. This will find the correct driver for Windows XP.
5. Boot again and you should have sound.
Enjoy

Finally... somebody else is having the same problem I'm having. Okay my ? is now did you download and install the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for win2000 or the Conexant HD Audio? I haven't found the Conexant HD Audio for 2000 yet and the Microsoft UAA for 2000 using your method didn't work. Also it maybe be the way my system is setup now, because I have XP on partition D:\ Vista on C:\ Which I can't see why that would be such a problem, but who knows.

Same problem on dv6227cl fixed
I installed Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (sp33867) for the dv6000 from the hp site:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...228&lang=e n/
new hardware was found and windows update installed drivers and now the sound works. other drivers also installed

Hmmm... weird. I finally got it working but I re-did my system again for tri-boot, only this time I installed the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver before I did anything else after first installing XP only. Possibly something was locked in the registry.

hp dv9230 same problem, newer machine
I've installed XP onto the "D" drive of a dv9230 as an alternative to Vista Ultimate to address compatibility problems with Blackberry and Office 2K. It's set up dual boot and all devices are installed except the Conextant/ MS UUA setup which will not run (code 39) using the ms driver or HD Audio driver. Have tried various old xp and 2K versions with no success, any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Audio issues with XP
I have looked through the comments and issues raised regarding the HP laptops, I too am experiencing the same problems and have yet to find an effective solution.
HP dv9398ea - has anyone been successful?
