Problems installing Philips Aurilium PSC805 USB external sound card.
I am having problems installing my Philips PSC805 USB Sound card.
I have a strong suspicion that this is caused by a corrupted XP generic USB Audio Driver.
The PSC805 (according to the instructions) is a plug and play device requiring no additional drivers.
On installation: XP recognises that it is a Philips PSC805 device. And then asks for a driver (new hardware wizard). I allow it to do a full search (internet included) and it fails to find one.
On opening the device manager I get the following references:
· USB Human Interface Devices: Location 0 (Philips PSC805): This device is working properly.
· USB Composite Device: Location 0 (Philips PSC805): This device is working properly.
· Other devices: Location 0 (Philips PSC805): The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There is also a big yellow “?” an “!”
According to various net articles this device should be using the windows USB audio driver and subsequently have a reference in the device manager under Sound, video and games controllers. –there is none.
There is additional software supplied with the card for sound processing (5.1,EAX etc..) called Aurilium Sound Agent 2-this I have installed and can be seen under the Sound, video and games controllers. This software only goes active when it detects a properly installed card so this is at present not functional. Net references to drivers for this card refer in actually to this software (which does not solve my problem).
Is this generic USB Audio driver the USBAudio.sys file? As I can find this in
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ .
If this is the case then is my USBAudio.sys file corrupted? If so where/how can I get a replacement file?
My operating system is XP with SP2 installed. I did have an external sound card -Creative Audigy NX 2 that died on me after about 3 years use. I uninstalled all the Creative software prior to installing the PSC805.
I currently use Norton Internet Security 2005 for my antivirus and firewall.
I would be grateful for any advice/ help, as I have run out of ideas. I even ran a check on my registry using some commercial software.
