Need USB Drivers for Netvista 8303 Computer

I recently purchased a used IBM Netvista 8303 1.8 GHZ Celeron computer which came with a wiped hard drive. I installed Windows 98 on it and I cannot find a driver for the 6 USB ports. The IBM website says that they do not provide driver support for Windows 98 for USB for this computer. Where can I get USB support??? The IBM site did provide drivers for everything else.

IBM's position on this is based on the fact that Windows 98 (ie prior to 98SE) had a very poor record where USB was concerned. 98SE largely addressed that, among other things.

Have you checked in Control Panel->Device Manager too see if the USB ports are actually listed, or is this the very problem you are referring to (not listed)?

If they are listed then your system has obviously detected them so you don't need a driver for the actual ports, what you do need is a driver for whatever device you want to plug into them --- and only the manufacturer of that device (scanner, printer, card reader etc.) can supply that.

If the ports haven't been detected, or no Windows 98 drivers are available for your peripheral usb devices, you may have to consider upgrading to a more "usb friendly" version of Windows.

I'm sorry that I did not indicate that I did install Windows 98SE on this computer. When I go into the "Add New Hardware" in control panel, "PCI Universal Serial Bus" has a yellow question mark by it. Windows 98SE says that the device is installed, but drivers are needed. When I search for a driver on the Windows 98SE disk, it says that Windows was unable to locate a driver for this device. I did not think that you needed a driver for each USB device - I thought that once the USB ports were operational, they automatically recognized each device. I would like to use a USB port to download digital photos.

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE
