edit: ok, downloaded and tried to install the other sigmatel listed and am receiving the same "system does not support" error.

http://support.gateway.com/support/d...s=Windows%20XP

There is another way to download and install, all the files are exe. so they install with a setup file.

create a folder and name it Drivers, then download and save all the files in that folder, get these drivers or all of them so ou have a complete set of drivers.

Intel Chipset
both the SigmaTel audio drivers
Intel video
ATI Video

Then install this way, anything yellow flagged just right click, select Update driver and point to the folder where all your drivers are.

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

Anything yellow flagged in Device Manager.

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

You won't need Winzip to install

Just one point are you audio plugs near the bottom of the tower, if they are you have a sound card and these drivers will not work, get Everest copy and paste the My Computer/Summary section, it should show the sound card if you have one http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Edition.shtml

Hope this helps

No sound win xp after reformat

I have the same problem after a reformat now no sound.

The main circuit board is an Intel D 845GERG2 AAA 97835-105. I cannot locate the correct drivers.

The computer has 'no sound recording capabilities'

Any advice would be welcomed.

Thanks

Jodi

You need to find where Winzip has stored the files
Open Winzip
Next
Update an exsisting file - this will show all the files winzip has and where they are stored
look for these
9536675.exe
SigmaTel4618.exe
ATIV1066.exe
IntelVideo4308.exe
make a note of the path to them

make a folder in My documents Drivers unzipped

Go to each file
double click
Winzip opens
Next
unzip or install - name of file follows
say yes if Winzip caution opens
Select a different folder
navigate to your Drivers unzipped folder
click to highlight
OK
Unzip now
All files will be shown unzipped
Close
Do this for each driver - you now have a folder with your drivers unzipped.

Go to Device Manager and follow this
Go to Device Manager, then right click on what is displayed under that (could be unknown PCI device, Soundmax, Realtek etc)

Then click Driver

Then click Driver update

Then it will ask if you want to check Internet for updates – click No

Then click Install from a different location

Then push the Browse button

Direct it to the folder you unzipped the files to

Then click Ok

Hope this helps

tried again........

hi Barbara,
ok, so after installing all of that, the computer ran slower than ever and then froze up. Soooooooooo, I did a clean install of WindowsXP again and now we are back to square one. I did take the panel off of the tower and what I presumed to be the sound card said it was Samsung Tuner and ATI then a long list of numbers/letters.
Thank you so much for your help and patience, it is appreciated more than you know. I cannot wait to post on here that this has all been resolved!!!
thanks,
Jodi

Ok go back to Gateway http://support.gateway.com/support/d...s=Windows%20XP

click on How to Download - print off instructions

Click on how to install - print off instructions, this tells how to check if you have the right driver, check both

Hope this helps

I'm more or less amazed at how useful this site has been in the past, but unfortunately I now have the same lack of sound resulting from a reformat, and sadly no one else seems to have a similar Belarc profile.

My model is:
Compaq Presario 061 ED878AA-ABA SR1630NX NA540 0nx1411RE101AMBEM00

When I plug in a Logitech USB headset the sound works, but it won't read from the regular, non-USB speakers.

Hey. I just FDisked and Reinstalled XP Home and I can't find the sound drivers for this Mobo. It's an integrated Sound Chip. Also I think that I may not remember to come back to this board if it's not answered in like 3 days (which upon checking out this site i know that's not the case), but I was wondering if you'd do a favor for me and e-mail the results to asseenontv20 (at) gmail (dot) com once you find out what drivers I need for the sound card anyways. I'm a Computer Tech (A+ Cert) and i should now where to find it, but this mobo is giving me problems. Thanks for the assistance!
