I also have a second problem in that my USB controller doesnt have a driver installed and i dont kno where to get it. If anyone can point me in the right direction for either of these issues id be much obliged.

BTW where i plug in my speakers is down the bottom of the tower. i think that means something.

Thanks.

Check this first, see if EMU101K1 is listed and set as default

Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Audio tab / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device

if not the driver for Soundblaster is here
http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ame=Windows+XP

yourr motherboard drivers are here http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...ProductID=1855

install the Chipset driver

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Question No Sound After Reformatting

Hello, A few months back I reformatted my laptop due to slow running, and viruses. All is well now, except I do not have any sound. When I go to sound and audio devices everything is "Greyed out" and is not clickable. Also when I go under device manager there is a yellow question mark. I have attempted installing new drivers and I have had no luck. This is highly irritating. Im sorry to bug you with this question, but I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you.

My computer is a Compaq Presario 2200
It has windows XP installed

If you need more info just tell me..I will be glad to post what ever you need to solve this problem..thank you again.

This is the link to your drivers http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...3 686&lang=en

now 3 are listed and it will be a case of trying them one at a time, the best way is to download to a folder and point Windows to install.

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

it's the Ist part where you have a setup exe file. I would create 3 folders and call them Audio 1, 2 & 3

Set a System Restore Point before installing each driver just in case

Hi, I've just reformatted windows xp, and loaded all the drivers. There's no error messages coming up, and no alerts in device manager. My speakers are plugged in properly (they are moniter attatched speakers), and sound's on correctly. I've run out of ideas of what could be the problem, maybe you have one? Thanks.

Check this to see if Realtek is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

Also this
Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Component Services / a separate window will open – in left pane click Services(Local) from the tree / Scroll down to Windows Audio service / if the service is Disabled or Manual right click > select Properties > under Startup Type change to Automatic > click Apply / click Start > OK Reboot.

get the driver from here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...tDown=false#AC

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions
